The rears are 275/35/18. Mine had Dunlops on when i bought it but changed to Goodyear Eagle Ayssemtrics soon after with a big improvement. You can get the 10/60 edge sport from Halfords.

Simon.

Hi Gingercross!

In relation to your first words there, and related to Quintens' recent purchase, You 'believe' you've picked up a nice M5? - I'm just extrapolating that from what and 'how' I read quintons post, I'm hoping you did a full and thorough pre purchase inspection to help you 'know' you have a nice M5?

Not being funny to you or Quinten, just with all the recent posts on various forums in the recent 'boom' in 'I want a nice M5' posts, it 'seems' owners are taking more risks in purchasing without doing good thorough inspections!

From speaking to the various E39 M5 owners I know and meet regularly as well as reading things liek the M5 board etc, I'd have thought in this case you and quinten here on PH forums, would've done a full detailed inspection prior to purchasing?!

I do hope you both did, and it's just the 'way' you've typed things which is leading me to think along the way you may have 'skimped' a bit!

Good luck with the new purchase! give Hayward and Scott a call wink

Cheers, Dennis!

I just purchased 10l for under £100 from http://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/

For rear tyre size, I have 275/35ZR18

best tyre - eagle F1, 275/35/18

Oil as above - dont use any other oil, you end up burning it. bmw recommends 10-60 edge,

I've had similar thoughts.......Some of Quinten's buying 'conditions' were frankly odd and ill informed, as I told him on the M5 Board........I hope they've both managed to get decent cars......it's just the cheaper end of the E39 M5 market is always a worrying place........If you've got £10k to spend on an M5. Spend £10k..............

Quite abit under at the moment -

They are doing 4L+1L free at £37.60

So £75.20 for 10L

Damn good deal I'd say

But please don't as it's not the correct oil. You need Castrol Edge 10W60. NOT Edge Sport. smile

Hi M5Tom,

Yes, I know what you mean !

I'm on a busy US BMW related forum as well, and every so often a UK based poster who's recently bought an M5 asks some really odd things every couple weeks or so. Now it's very difficult to tell over the web etc and looking at the style of language he uses etc - I think he may well have another language as his first language as well as have limited 'enthusiast level' knowledge of cars. Just the other day he asked something and I was like 'wow, he asked THAT'?!!

I always respond if I know something about it and I've asked him a couple times about roughly in the UK he is, as I could perhaps point him towards quite a few of the specialists I know etc or at the very least suggest somewhere that may be local to him - no luck so far!

I hope Quinten and Gingercross find that they're cars are good ones and more importantly keep them good ones !

I just can't help feeling, and it's a conversation I had with a few people at the Ace Cafe BMW day on saturday just gone, that people will buy them, keep them and at the first sign of a big expense flog them off.

I'm a lurker on the site you mention, however I have met quite a few of the London area based regulars and hope to be at more events in the near future smile

Cheers, Dennis!
