E46 Compact Exhaust

Need some advice on my 2002 e46 318ti compact please!!
The back box is blowing, easy enough to spot- though i've been told not so easy (or cheap) to fix?
So they tell me that the exhaust system on this model is all one piece- so potentially if they can't source a 'sleeve??' then the whole thing will need replacing?!
Anyone have any similar experiences? If the whole thing needs replacing would I be just as well replacing with a component part system- and if so can anyone recommend a good but affordable option?
-Bearing in mind i'm leaving the country soon so will have to sell the car before long
