Not just citizens.

Lots of Poles, Somali gang members, Asylum seekers, illegals etc disenfranchised.

Isn't voting a 'human right'?

If that happened you'd probably get China shipping in 100bn people to vote in a Commi government. (headed by Gordon)

What does that mean? It's just a legal status right?

We've got Apartheid in this country right?! Why don't immigrants deserve representation? They pay tax!

they pay tax, but they aren't a part of the country. I guess if they want to vote, they can become a citizen

How about a mini test on the voting form with a random selection of questions.
Like "Who is the current chancellor?"
"Which party is currently in power?"
"What is the approximate population of the UK?"

They can be multichoice. If you dont get 100% then your vote is destroyed.

Thats what Id do. The Labour vote would decline by at least 75%

I was going to say the same, you get to vote whatever, but your vote only counts if you answer some politics questions correctly. You don't find out whether your vote counted or not. It would get rid of the, "My Dad's, Dad', Dad's, Dad voted for them, so...." idiots.

You also pay tax when you go on holiday in a foreign country, so likewise I think you'll agree we should be eligible to vote in any country we've ever visited.

Yes to the quiz idea.

To be honest I think I may reverse the idea of universal sufferage too.
The number of women I heard say that Nick Clegg had a nice smile, time to give him a go.
I can honestly say I have never based my voting preference of the attractiveness of the candidate.

So, the Labour Party lost at the Election last week and you are trying to dream up new ways of getting more support for them?

Not only citizens can vote. I'm not a citizen, but as a common wealth citizen I'm still entitled to vote. And I do. (Tory, for those who are interested.)
