help just got car on road and under load it semms hard to get gears on forward action on gear stick anyone had this and had gear link cables ajusted and cured it as guessing this is reason as there is a long throw in the forward action also where arms bolt to gear box is there a spacer washer either side of the poly bush btween the clutch link arms ruled out clutch as not slipping and got a good pedal ????????

Is it all gears on foward action or just far left and far right???

I remember one person having the material that surounds the cable had frayed and got caought up in the cable?

hi steve problem seems to be mainly 3rd and 5th when under hard excelaration and when going down box but if driving steady not a great issue

I had this many moons ago and a new cable sorted it.

is it stiff to move the linkage by hand if you disconnect the cable ?

yep also check the rod that goes back from the gear lever to the cable connections it goes through 2 rose joints and mine was rusted up !!

You have an M400, right? Several things to check. First, check the condition of the shifter cables, especially near the front turbo - I've seen a few where the inner cable lining has melted to the cable, or where the water pump pulley has almost worn through the cable. Second, check the pivot levers bolted to the top of the transmission to make sure they pivot freely. If the bolt holding them in place has been overtorqued, the axle that the levers pivot on may have mushroomed, preventing the levers from moving smoothly. On the other hand, if the bolt is too loose, shifting gets all sloppy. Third, check that all the jam nuts on the linkage are tight, along with the nuts holding the cables in place. Fourth, remove the console around the gearshift lever, and check the bolts holding the gearshift in place - sometimes they loosen up, allowing the gearshift mechanism to move around, throwing the whole linkage out of adjustment. Fifth, readjust the shifter linkages - there are instructions in the American build manual that will get you close, minor tweaking after that can make it better.

tried all sugestions had no joy any one know which witch pecific model and year of ford the gear box is out of its in a m400 6 speed at thanks for sugestions as to fault so far
