XR2I HEAD GASKET

hi i have a 1991 xr2i 8v in 2008 the head gasket went and i had the head skimmed gasket replaced along with timing belt water pump head set fitted by my local garage a chap who builds and races fords

Coming home tonight the car was running fine for about 60 miles then started to misfire pulled over engine temp was in the middle car ticking over ok so carried on driving thinking it was probably a plug on its way out about 15 miles further on car running ok temp flies off the scale pull over all cream in cap no water in tank.

Car has only done 1500 miles since head was done am i able to get head reskimmed or is it a once only thing?? how easy are they to do have fairly good mechanical knowledge but never undertaken anything like this

dont think it will be covered by garage due to being 2 years ago what i dont want to do is if it it is possible re do head and for it to do it again in 1500 miles what is likely to have caused it again so soon could it be becuase i didnt put anti freeze in it??

Sounds like the head is still warped, unless the water loss occurred first causing it to fail again.

I feel for you. My mongdeo is doing the same sort of thing.

Was the car antifreezed when it was fixed last ? rusting internaly can cause them to go again especialy if it's sat about for ages ? or if the fad isn't working it'll overheat and blow the gasket.

I usually tax it for 6 months during our so called summer then take it off the road for the winter thinking back i had a water leak last year and had to replace a pipe i stupidly (kicking myself very hard) did not put anti freeze in, with the fact its been sat for 6 months and the huge freeze we had earlier in the year i think this is what has caused it.

I was going to undertake the repair myself but think i will just drop a new engine in as its cheaper. May rebuild the one i take out and keep for a spare my moto always was drive it till it goes bang then rebuild it!!
