Hello Ted

I have just read a thread with regards to a Peter Andraeaaea thread disappearing. Your comment with regard to using space on tabloid sh!te makes sense. This lead me to a thought....

Should threads have a life? There is no doubt that there are many threads that contain timeless info, but many also have a life and become irrelivent after a few weeks. Having the ability to get things off ones chest with regards to current afairs is good, but who cares after x months?

Just an idea anyway, guess from the database point of view it is just an additional field and then a routine to delete appropriate threads/messages. Not sure who should decide what the "life" should be though, thread/topic creators, the mods or you. Maybe the thread creators and then checked/amended by the mods?

Apologies if this has been thought of before - couldn't find anything after doing a quick search before typing this. Maybe tidying up is already done, but I just don't notice it!

Richard.

That's an interesting idea. I'll have a ponder on that one.

To be honest I don't really see the point, pointless and irrelivent threads get filtered back naturally and its just more work. I also find that they provide an interesting social commentry (well maybe not one thats better to forget!)

On the other hand I suppose it might make it easier to separate the wheat from the chaff

The idea was to help Ted rather than users. PH is a business and I do not know how quick the gassing station database grows. There are 443,000 messages in the general gassing section today - if the rate of posting accelerates then will hosting / managing this become an issue?

The size of the database isn't a huge concern.
