California car rental
Discussion
Does anyone know how successful I'm likely to be with a specific model request with Hertz? I'm looking to book a car for 10 days next month and because we're flying into San Francisco and out from LAX the premium and fun cars seem to be a big no no. Next best thing would be the Mustang convertible but to guarantee one will be over $1200 whereas if I book a convertible class car and put in a request for a Mustang it will be $450. I really don't want to get stuck with a Sebring but equally I don't want to pay an extra $750 to guarantee the Mustang. Has anyone got any tips to ensure I get a decent car without having my wallet raped?
I've just something similar to this last month. Flew into SF and ditched the car 9 days later in San Diego. We booked through Hertz (they had a special offer on in April, approx 25% off) because they seemed to offer the best prices if you wanted to pick up and drop off the car at different airports.
Anyway, I had the same dilema as you, as I didn't want to pay more than double to guarantee the Mustang, as opposed to the general convertible option.
2 things that I did that seemed to help, were join the Hertz drivers/No 1 club and also book their sat nav/never lost system. Obviously the drivers club ownership helps as it makes you look more like a repeat/loyal customer. The sat nav thing was more of a luck thing, as the guy who was serving us said they didn't have many convertibles with that in, so we just got what was ready/available...with was a lovely Mustang convertible...it really made the holiday.
Good luck!
