I'm amazed there haven't been any spanish posters contributing to this section as PH seems to be fairly well known all over Europe. To be honest i generally post in Jap Chat but haven't noticed there is a Spain section till tonight. I see the first posts go back to September last year so it's still early days i suppose.

Anyway, just thought i would say hi, and now you have a spaniard posting on this section. My neck of the woods when i visit is Jerez De La Frontera, that's where my mother lives. The way things are over here i reckon it won;t be long before i up sticks and head for my ancestral home. At least the weather's good. biggrin

Just a quick question to those living in Spain. Do you see many subaru's out there, modified or standard??

Cheers, Francis thumbup

And TVR's having read most of these threads. In which case i should learn to remap those as well, or perhaps i'll just stick to Subaru's. smile

Anyhow, hopefully now i'll be frequenting Spain section regularly.

Thanks for the reply.

And Hummers.

A friend has an old scooby, but to be honest I don't see many of them, and the ones I do see are either on Gib or UK plates.

There's hope yet then because remapping Subaru's is what i would like to do in Spain. I travel all over the UK doing this and obviously there is no shortage of scoobys over here however, the weather here is lousy and so is the state of the country so Spain is now even more appealing than ever.

Despite the current lousy spanish economy, and to be fair, that's all over Europe, it's nothing quite like it is over here.

The UK is still 'muy caro y muy malo', and i have no idea why so many young spaniards are coming over here. Perhaps it's the multitude of low paying low skill jobs like fruit and veg picking, domestics and restaurant work that brits won't do.

Is it really so bad in Spain that they would come here to this damp and cold miserable hole that is the UK??

Just going to throw my 2 cents in.

I grew up in Marbella and since I was about 16 I have moved back to the UK, back to Marbella and so on loads of times. My opinion is that the only difference is weather benefit wise, and the food, and the nice long lunch break. Maybe I should head back again.

Well Mallorca is getting a very, very epensive place to live.
Whenever I go back to Blighty, I find food and clothes cheap.
I have a very good job, but I don't know how the locals afford to live on the crappy salaries.
This summer is going to shut a few more down I think, especially with the IVA going up to 18%.
The Balearic Gubberment has decided to put a matriculation tax on all charter boats.....and back date it 4 years! There goes the visitors who spend on average 250 euro per day per head. (according to a poll by Palma University)
The hoteliers are trying to shut down people who rent out private villas and apartments, (they say it's taking their trade. Hey, it's called competition!) so if they succeed, there will go the visitors who eat out in the resturaunts and bars every day.
But hey! Lets fill the all-inclusives, and fill the place with scum who come with no money, and vommit everywhere!
Oh, and bl00dy nuisance cyclists who clutter the front of the bars with bikes, wear inapropriate clothing for the establishment they are in, and buy only water.
I don't geddit moan

I do love this place though. You wouldn't get me back in Blighty either. Just a shame about the dog st and the beer bingo and chips brigade who flood into this place. The gubberment will never get the "quality tourism" they keep harping on about, as they don't know the meaning of quality, or service.

If you're thinking of coming back home, consider the North. (Galicia or Cantabria.)Probably not many Scoobies there though!

Moan over. and breathe........smile

Oh, and "Hi" bye the way. waveybiggrin

There's no lifestyle of any sort to be had here any more. In the UK you live to work rather than work to live.

I think it will have to be a tent on the beach at Rota or Sanlucar, or maybe Chipiona for the summer, and a litle job hiring sunbeds out. Oh the simple things in life. biggrin

Jerez for me. Lovely selection of beaches not far away, frequented mostly by spanish holidaymakers from Madrid and the north, and what i would call quality brits looking for culture and cusine. The brits that live here are great and nothing like the beer bingo and chips crowd.

Thankfully the Costa De La Luz doesn't have the same attraction to the scum end of the market that the Costa Del Sol/Brava/Blanca, tourist areas etc... suffer from. These areas are victims of their own success.

agree with mickrick on this one, visits back to the uk always highlight to me the competition element to the uk retail sector of any sort, even food seems cheaper than spain now, certainly clothes, electricals, cars(ho hum)and so on.the hike on iva seems madness at this point in time as does hitting the boat brigade.dont the powers that be understand that this type of tourist spends like no other!here on the costa blanca the guardia have been impounding brit registered boats and forcing them to re reg spanish at considerable cost, many i know are upping sticks and finding new med destinations(not spain) moorings or packing in altogether sick of being over charged for their shoddy lift and anti foul etc, whislt the empty chandlers, port resteraunts etc be-moan their mis fortune!no probs finding a berth here!!whislt the benidorm and torre tourists bring necessary income to those areas they have really been voting with their feet over the last year and going elswhere due to the 3.50 euro pint and same as uk price meals etc(yes and the weak £).i think spain has lost a bit of its appeal tbh,not only to the tourist but certainly to house hunters aswell.seriously need to sort themselves out and dont even get me started on customer service/human resource-with you on that one too mickrick!also just last week every household in my area whose property can be supplied with reiga water, whether you use it or not was hit with additional suma bills of 490 euros plus several smaller bills depending on plot size, nice!townhall says there was a meeting to discuss and vote on this and 340 out of 400 people voted for this bill!no one can find anyone who went to the meeting and the town hall keeps saying its broke hmmmmmm............i have my own well water so not best pleased.rant over, and its a pleasant 21 degrees atm so not all bad.

As you say that kind of over pricing may well scare brits and others off to greener pastures elsewhere in Europe or perhaps even North Africa and the Middle East. That would hurt Spain bigtime and all of it because of desperation and greed.

There are plenty of sunny climes out there deperate for tourist and ex-pat money.

My heart still lives in Spain and i couldn't really imagine moving to anywhere else apart from doing a long haul to perhaps Canada, NZ or Oz if things don't start to improve Europe wide as a whole.

Yep completely agree. I live on the west end of the costa del sol. Almost in the province of Cadiz. But if I go to the beach, then it's over to Tarifa or Bolonia, or anywhere else on the costa de la luz.

Costa De La Luz has the most beautiful coastline and scenery, mostly unspoilt by sky high hotels. Building regs seem to be a bit more sympathetic towards keeping the coastline free from monstrosities The diving is very good around Cadiz, Puerto De Santa Maria has a PADI dive school.

I hear Parasurfing and Windsurfing is especially good over your neck of the woods. Tarifa and Barbate (Caños de Meca) come to mind.

Yep, Off to Caños de meca in a couple of weeks. I don't surf/dive/kite surf. But have a few friends who do.

I'm in Gibraltar and have a 2003 sti. In the six years I have been on the coast I have only seen 4 others in Spain (there are a few here in Gibraltar), only one of which was Spanish registered and driven by a polish guy. They don't seem too popular in Spain. The thing that makes me laugh is I got the same thumbs up from people in spain driving the scooby as when I had a Scuderia! They love the scooby's down here.

There's hope for me yet then biggrin

I think there are probably a fair number more along the east coast and hopefully more inland. I've not heard of too many scooby tuners in Spain if any on the mainland, i think there might be one in the canaries somewhere. Seems an odd place to have a scooby tuner, so many miles from the mainland and i can't imagine there are that many there either.

To me it doesn't matter where they are in Spain as i provide a mobile service anyway and to be honest travelling miles in Spain beats travelling miles in a heavily congested UK hands down. If there are enough scooby's in Spain, and i can remap EVO's too so it does broaden the potential for me, it would make my decision a lot easier and probaly get me moving out there sooner rather than later.

There must be a way to find out.
