Just wondering if anyone can advise,

I took out a telephone, tv and broadband package out with a supplier late last year, and only just recently got round to getting a phone to plug into the socket. I've been getting alot of phone calls since plugging in my phone relating to a business i=I presume has now gone under, as alot of the calls are from debt management and collection companies.

I have googled my number and it relates to a broadband supplier based not too far from me, but obviously their only number is my number (which is also ex directory)

What can I do to stop the calls? Or am I lumbered with having the phone go every few hours? frown

No it wouldnt.

I had the same problem with a PAYG chip I got a while ago as a personal number so friends and family only could reach me if my business phone was off.

Got the number changed for free a couple of weeks later as I had people calling up asking for Rob, and if I had any of my "stash" left. Also got debt collection people calling up for cancelled gym memberships and all sorts.

Bizarre.

Did you have any of your stash left?

I suspect it would help.

They're looking for a business that is no longer there.

The person that is there has nothing to do with the business (as can be confirmed after 1 call) so any further calls are unsolicited.

It's worth a go and if they persist once you're on it its a £50K per call penalty if they're found to be in breach.

Regretfully no, but I did have some "DriPro" white powder cleaning chemical which I could have passed on I suppose - its ability to get someone high would be questionable.

Cheers for the advice, will call my provider during the week and ask about a change. Phone is now unplugged as I sleep during the day.
