Radio/Battery issues.............
Discussion
Hi all,
wanted to know if anyone else has seen this issue
Last week my radio/ipod side of the widescreen unit went dead (left button did nothing - pressed it, no Radio, no IPod
Also, prior to this I had noticed I could only pick up the likes of Radio 1,2 and 4 and almost no local stations
Anyway, on Thursday went to go home and the car wouldnt start (realays clicking away, various lights showing on DB
but no joy on starting!
Called the AA out and they boosted it so it started fine - he then carried out a battery check and told me the battery was fine
After the boost the Radio/Ipod came back to life and also I could then pick up all radio stations
I have the intravee kit and wondered if this might be the source of the issue as I know I didnt leave interior lights or anything similar on to drain the battery
Any similar experiences/ideas?
Cheers

Hi
I have a DICE kit and recently suffered a flat battery (battery turned out to only be 2 years old)

Hoping that new battery doesn't crash and burn as well - the only thing I have none standard is the iPod kit.....
I didn't have any Radio issues prior to the battery giving up - it just stopped working.
Fingers crossed.

Matt - is this an e39 M5? I have an intravee on my e39 M5 and the LCA 420i was modded to keep the ipod from going to sleep. Recently I've been having a few flat battery issues and it may be that the combination of the mod and a weak battery was leading to the discharge after sitting a few days. I also know that funny things start happening to components in the car when the battery is on the way out so it may be that the battery is at the root of your problems.
Any update on this.
Another E46 M3 with Intravee, modded LCA420i, IV switch; and battery drain!
HOWEVER, my gut feel is that the IV kit may NOT be the problem. Have had an intermittent drain for a while now. Car is mostly a weekend toy and Saturday mornings have been hit or miss for a few weeks, but generally if the car starts on Saturday (and is run for a while to top up battery), I will have no problem for the rest of the weekend.
This weekend car was fine Saturday, and started fine at 16:15 Sunday. Drove for about 40 minutes. Left parked until 21:00, then would not start, battery flat.
To me this indicated quite a rapid drain, faster than I would expect from the Intravee kit. Internet wisdom suggests the "hedgehog resistor" (Fan Speed Unit as a common cause, so will start there. IV bits currently disconnected.
Any other experienced gratefully received.
