Does your roof fit?
Discussion
OK, sacrilege that it should be on the car unless its a hurricane and then you need a note from your mum saying you have in growing nose or something. But, my roof section could almost be lifted out on the passenger side there was that much play in it. Anyway, a chat with the garage this morning reveals that the section of metal the rear part of the body sits on is no longer there. Tin worm has had a field day and the body was sat on the chassis, which is solid and OK.
Garage are sorting the issue but just thought it worth a mention should anyone else wonder if their little used roof section starts to not be snug anymore.

Hi Stephen, still at the garage. I will get a better idea when I get it back and the garage can show me. Apparently it passed the MOT as it is body only plate not structure and the body was secure. I have already had the outrigger corners done and they are easy to check and a dirt trap which keeps the moisture so my car is getting like Triggers Broom! He says all doable without lifting the body.
Sure there are a few pics of a Wedge chassis kicking around on PH. Might give an idea.
And no, don't think I have a pic of the roof up
Here is a corner and NOT my currant problem (done a good few years ago). On the car and quite reasonable for those without the tools and know how.

My 350i has this problem and my car also has a larger gap at the rear top edge of the doors compared to the bottom. This is because the rear of the body has dropped down.
There is a metal plate under the boot with 2 bolts going through the boot floor. To fix mine I will have to jack the body up slightly and put a larger steel plate to spread the weight and fibreglass the boot floor and put a larger rubber spacer in.

Jeff you trying to frighten this small boy
I will be checking the underside this weekend, as I think that I have a small amount of rot in the front corner/ drivers side.
I think that i may have to lift to inspect correctly but the plates you are refering to must be a little more visable.
Age old question.....as I slapped some smooth hamerite on the easy visable tubes 5 months ago but it looks crap again... maybe i should have pretreated first ?
Leo
Thanks for the offer are you going to the BBWF in July ?
P.S. I only drink pints of whisky which helps keeps the bloody cold off my body in the Winter and drowns the moans from the passenger

The corner was picked up on an MOT. Changed without taking the body off. The tubes were standard section so I was told quick and easy. Just had to get the rot as far as it went. I picked up another rear side when I left the wood off the jack and the castellations on the jack crunched in. So the plate was holier than a swiss cheese convention.
The front corners are quite easy to prod at with the body on and see. They have had a good coating of goo after refitting and I just wash them out after a run and keep an eye on the coating. Unfortunately the pick up a lot of gunk from the front wheels and get pebble dashed.
Think MikeB had deflectors fitted (Mike?)?
