Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums as I need some advice and I also may be looking for a new car, but the main thing is I have just been offered a new job which would mean a commute around the M25 from junction 9 to 15, then the M1 from junction 4b and off at junction 4 to Hayes.

Does anyone have any idea how long this will take me in the morning's? I would like to do a trial run before I accept but I'm not sure if it will be feasible on a week day.

If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

M1 = M4 presumably??

J9 round to the M4 is one of the very worst stretches at peak time.

Ooh yes I meant the M4, not the M1.

Hmm not looking great really is it. I can go the scenic route, up through Hampton Court and Feltham which is 16 miles. I think that would take me about an hour. I guess I was hoping the M25 would be slightly quicker!

Thanks

I would head to the Scilly Isles, then go up past Hampton Court, then along the Thames to Hampton, then head north through Feltham. The M25 is a nightmare at that time of day.

From memory, a sneaky diversion that could save time seems to be going through Kingston then heading to Hampton Court as this avoids the midweek traffic around the Scilly Isles (for some reason it usually tends to be lighter on Mondays and Fridays).

Where are you coming from? Leatherhead? In either suggestions. you may have problems at the Hook Roundabout (Ace of Spades) as you'd get stuck in traffic joining the A3 and heading north.

I do A41 to M25 J20 to J16 then M40 into (S)Uxbridge.
min 1hour often hour and a half. I hate it so much I bought a Lexus. It's a lot more tolerable now.

Thank you for the replies.

I am coming from Chessington, so I have the option of going up past Leatherhead onto the M25 at junction 9, or going up to Tolworth and through Kingston and then onto Hampton Court, OR going up to Hook/A3 roundabout and going through Esher. There are a few ways I could do it.

It sounds as though that way is going to be the way rather than the M25 then!

With the queue on Parkway from the Gt South West to the M4 roundabout, from North Feltham to the M4 can take 15 minutes (plus) in the rush hour, and then you've got the stretch from the M4 to the Western International roundabout to contend with if you're heading into Hayes.

It's really not going to be a 60 minute trip on the backroads, unless you're on a motorbike

A better bet would be to add those two together. Or even multiply.

Whichever route you take, you're going to get stuck in traffic. The earlier you leave, the easier the journey will be as otherwise you'll get stuck on the M25, caught in traffic on the M4, stuck at the Western International Market Roundabout, etc..

Hampton can also get very congested as alot of people commute through Hampton and along the river in order to join the M3/A316.

Thanks.

When I had the interview there, I left the house at 7.10am and got there at 8.10am so that wasn't too bad. I just followed the sat-nav up through the back roads, not the M25.

I guess the problems will be if I leave after around that time. I'm happy to leave the house at 7.15am every day though and get there early.

I would possibly consider getting a bike as I have been going into central London on a scooter for the past year and a half but I dont enjoy it that much and this is quite far to go on a scooter.

Thanks

Best way to go, no point going out to M25 if you are in Chessington.

As has been said, go via Scilly Isles, over Hampton Court bridge, then left at roundabout onto Hampton Court Rd, then right onto A311, then left onto A312 and follow A312 all the way to Hayes.

An hour will be a bargain smile

I used to live in Hayes (I work in Surbiton) and this is the route I used to take. Depending on where in Hayes you need to get to, I used to cut through Heathrow at Hatton Cross and up via Harlington. On average it used to take me about 50mins.
