Hi folks,

Not quite sure where to put this, so mods please feel free to move it.

I have inhertied a rather large Dinky collection, with many rare models in their original boxes, as well as many models needing restoration without their boxes.

Can anyone let me know the best place to get it valued & sell it?

Cheers

Out of interest is there any value in older cars that are boxless, and have been erm, played with?

I've got a collection of circa 200 cars - some are mine from my childhood, - early 80's but alot are what I inherited from my dad - so early 60's stuff.

None are in mint condition, and none have their boxes.

Cheers

Ebay not as bad as you may think. I sold a very nice condition 60's Unimog 404 with a good box for £36. Bought it 2 years ago (on ebay) for £12.

Can you be bothered selling individually?

I can be if its worth it - the cars have never been kept as a "collection" as such - they just happen to be a box full of dinky toys and a few matchbox cars.

I'll have to dig them out I guess and go through them individually to see if it is worth it or not.

I would do a google search of specialist auctioneers, there are several which focus on such stuff. Perhaps if there is anyone fairly local, may be an idea to go over and show them the wares.

Its the sort of subject where you may well have a crock of crap, or one or two gems which get collectors in a real tizzy!

Boxes are generally about 50% of the value of a mint item, but with a non-mint item there's not much point in keeping them together, you may as well sell the box on its own.

You can get reproduction boxes now you know!

You be surprised.

Early Dinky stuff can fetch a hell of a premium depending on what model it is. Some are extremely rare. The same can be said of some Corgi's as well.

eBay is very good for judging prices, as is Vectis auction website. There's always someone after a particular model to complete their collection, and you just may have it.
