My road tax was due this month - I always know, but await the letter to come through the door as the catalyst for going online and doing it (not least, because you can only do it 14 days before it's due).

Anyhow, I didn't receive the letter, and as a result spent 2 days without. Yikes. Having sorted that the instant I realised, and mentioned it to a couple of friends, they too were in exactly the same position; no reminder letter received.

Was it mere coincidence, or have others had the same problem?

Just idle curiosity!
Tony

I did recieve one last time but it was about 4 weeks late. Luckily I noticed before I ran out! Not sure if it is the DVLA not sending them or Royal Mail losing them!

I had a huge argument with them a few years ago about it. I got hit with a SORN fine for a car that wasn't even mine anymore. They accepted that had I received the usual notification through the post I would not have been in that position. But they then went on to say they do it out of courtesy, not obligation.

The harsh reality was that it was my own fault and I shouldn't have trusted the DVLA to do anything at all for me, other than send me a fine, of course.

No problem last month, apart from the fact insurance runs out 23rd April, although payment for the next year as already been paid the computer in Swansea says it can't confirm insurance,so you can't do it online and had to go to the post office.

The insurance company state that although they have informed the insurance database,it can take up to a week before it shows up,so it looks like I will always have a problem taxing this car online.

Mine expired at the end of last month, got the reminder on the 17th or so as usual.

And in a rare post - isn't the online system a refreshingly easy way to get the job done? No having to fish out the insurance and MOT certificates and queue up in the post office any more, just click, click, pay, done.

Ah well, seems it was just me and a couple of coincidental friends, then!

Agree about the online system though - piece of cake indeed.

Three reminders received in one envelope last week.
Now that's bordering on efficient...

I had to tax 3 cars on the same day a few months back, 2 reminders in 1 envolope and 1 in a seperate envolope, if they are going to be efficient get it right :-)
