Totally of all my own doing but bloody hell!
Can't believe I was so disorganised, just a bad couple of weeks really, mad busy at work and having to clear up at home after having new central heating fitted!

My current MOT ends today (2002 Astra) but due to supreme stupidity I leave it until Saturday (just gone) to get it done.

Of course it fails.
Cracked offside rear coil spring and defective headlight!

Local motor factors had a spring for £27, so I got 2 thinking its better to keep the pair matched.

The tester did have a go at correcting the beam but with no luck. So on inspection later on I couldn't see anything wrong with the bulb and he had mentioned it might be a bulb or the lamp itself. So I 'nipped' up to Romoco in Stockport (45 mile trip) and paid £25 for a new headlamp. Its only this morning on trying to fit in a re-test that he tells me its the main beam pattern that's faulty, and true enough I find a both are milky - £20 for 2 new bulbs.

Couple of advisories too.
'Can't inspect sills properly as sill protectors are fitted' - fair enough I suppose.
'Service brake pedal anti-slip device worn' - new brake pedal rubber then, smile

He also tried telling me that the rear box is too big for the car, and that someone has bashed the side in to make it fit plus stretched the hangers!
Its an Irmscher/Remus Vauxhall option and they're all shaped like that. smile

So 20:30 on Saturday night I finally tidy away the last socket but not before the usual scares and frights that accompany car work eg; thinking Romoco had give me the wrong side lamp then realising I'd taken the wrong one off and getting my fingers trapped whilst putting the new springs in - TWICE - and having to reach for the lump hammer to knock it free!

Oh... and as further punishment, having to get the bus to work today as they can only fit the re-test in for tomorrow morning!

So the moral of the story is use that months grace and get it done early!

... but you knew that already thought didn't you!

smile

I forget almost every year. Don't know why they can't send a reminder to the address of the registered keeper...

...and yes, I know about the sticker to put in the windscreen. But do you honestly every *look* at that sticker?

Lad at work here says his garage send him reminders, suppose its just up the individual garage concerned though.

Its not that I really forgot though, it was always there in the back of my mind, just I had my priorities arse about tit!

I'm still getting reminders from two garages for cars I sold years ago !

Other option is to do what I have been doing the last 18 months and not keeping a car long enough to need an MOT biggrin

If you want reminders EVERY year - not only for MOTs, but to remind you your brakes have probably failed/tyres must be bald, pay 'Fast Fit' to do an MOT. Just once. Obviously then ignore the massive list of fails, and take it somewhere reputable.. But I still receive reminders for a car I haven't had for 5 years biggrin
