18 months ago on the M20 I was stopped (7am in the morning on a Sunday), clear road for 96mph, naughty me. I'd set the cruise control at 90mph but the copper said I was at 96mph. I said "sorry" and he told me off, no points, just a slapped wrist.

Last week, clear M23 10am Wednesday. 82mph in a 70mph, mobile scamera... Letter in the post 3 points and a fine on the way. Nice one, not.

Sadly they will not let me to go on a speed awareness course either.

So, the long and short of it, there was no way I can just put my hand up and say sorry.

BTW I admit it, I was speeding but.... Now will have to cruise at 75mph-80mph as they seemed to have lowered their limits.

They are unfair because they don't let you off?

Or maybe setting it at 70mph? Just throwing it out there as a possibility.

How else are we to hit our Co2 emissions targets? I mean, target the motorist, drive them off the road and make it massively expensive to do or go anywhere - that way we save the planet. That's right isn't it?

Gaga indeed...

You don't get to pick and choose the penalties to suit you. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime...

They are unfair because you failed to spot the trap twice and only got let off once?

Was it on the M25 > Gatwick section, just before Gatwick by any chance ?

The entire M23 is a really bad place to speed. There are very often speed traps up, and it is full of unmarked cars.

If you see the LCD board up saying "watch your speed" there is often a trap/unmarked in operation.

Despite it being a well built piece of road, the accident rate is appalling. Lots of fatals on the M23 and A23, far above what you would expect for that type of road. I personally blame it on Gatwick...lots of tired people getting off flights, lots of people speeding and late for airport.

Wow. Guy get's caught doing a reasonable speed by a 'dumb' camera and PH supports the Safety Camera Partnership?

Either there's a lot of people here who've been brainwashed or you're all being argumentative for no reason.

Lol.

You are the type of people who sit in the outside lane at 70 mph mumbling to yourselves that you are doing the speed limit so there.....

I agree with you OP. I shall drive especially fast on the way home this evening to even the score up a bit. Ignore these brainwashed yoghurt knitters who are incapable of thinking for themselves.

(Cue "if you doing nothing wrong you've nothing to fear" and the grammer police).

By the way, get the front plate off and you wont have to worry about the scamera vans again.

Mobile speed cameras are unfair because they are not there to slow drivers down at all. One tiny sign on a lamp post makes it legal but does not aim to slow anyone down.

Yeah that'll work when they stick their head out the window to look at your rear one, write it down and get the local bob on you rolleyes

So the point of this, is that the Police officer failed by letting you off? If he did his job properly he would have shocked you into not speeding again for a while and thus meaning you didn't pick up your fine.

However he seems to have misjudged you that a warning would be suffice and that if caught again you might not be so lucky....

I am all for them warning people, but the person they warn needs to realise just what the officer has done for them.

Err he was originally caught at 96mph, camera got him doing 82mph, looks like the telling off worked to me.
