I normally use Autoglym wheel cleaner to do my car (Boxster with Carrera rims). Whether it is the best product out there I don't know, but it does me fine and I clean the wheels fairly regularly. It does a good job.

I'm prepping my Dads E46 for sale next weekend so will give it as good a clean as I can (wash, clay, polish, wax) - my problem is that the Autoglym wheel cleaner just will not shift some brown marks on the alloys. I've also tried Megs and that won't do it either.

The marks almost look like oil stains and are browny/gold.

Does anyone know of anything I will be able to get my hands on fairly easily that is likely to be a little bit stronger than Autoglym or Megs. I've heard good things about Bilberry (sp) but I suspect that is a little £££ and I'm not looking to spend the earth.

Any recommendations? Is clay likely to lift it?

Bilberry is NOt expensive and will last for ages. Are the marks tar related or just heavy deposits of brake dust?

Don't laugh but CarPlan Wonder Wheels is very strong and will remove most things. I would not use it often but it does work.

Wonder Wheels is an acid based cleaner.
Have a read through your owners handbook, more & more include cautions about not using acid based cleaners & if you have problems as a result of using one you are going to have warranty problems.
Of course, if the wheels are really bad then you've not got a lot to lose!
