Icmeler, Turkey
Discussion
Anyone been? My girlfriend is quite interested. We went to Olu Deniz last year, which was decent. Looked at various Greek islands etc., then this was reccomended.
We're looking for a mixture of beaches, plus more active stuff, walks etc., within easy reach, as well as nice restaurants and bars. Not 18-30 type stuff though!
We need to go last week of September, so hopefully not too quiet either.

I went last August and it's nice. Loads of bars / resturants, had a few really nice meals.
It's quite quiet in the way of entertainment and all the bars turn down their music around midnight (enforced by the police - don't know if this is common in Turkey). A lot of the 'entertainment' in the bars is Karaoke which tended to drive me nuts. I think there are 2 clubs but I only went to 1 of them and can't really remember all that much about it if I'm honest....
The beach is really nice (prob not as nice as the one in Oludeniz) and there are the usual watersports on offer as well as boat trips.
I never noticed much in the way of walks etc. In my defence it was around 44 degrees when I was there! You can hire bikes near the beach front and there is a walkway from Icemeler to Marmaris along the seafront.
There is also the 'old town' in Icemeler where few tourists wander round but is really pretty.

I'd recommend Marmaris over Icmeler. The beach at Marmaris is sandy, Icmeler is stony (if that's important?)
Marmaris is also larger and more lively, but you can decide how much nightlife you have. I was there about 5 years ago, and stayed in a 4-star all-inclusive resort (Pineta Park) and it was excellent. Actually, the only 2 downsides about the place were 1) the beer that was included and 2) the horrible, flabby, rude Brits on holiday at the same time!
Lots of restaurants down at the harbour in Marmaris, and every restaurant/bar/shop was happy to accept sterling instead of Turkish Lira - and gave a much better exchange rate than I could get over here!
