My wife had one of these incidents this morning, came back to her car in the multi-storey to find a dent and big scrape. Really annoying when people don't need a note (all of the time in my experience), but there was a note on the screen this time.

Not from the guy who crashed though. Someone saw it happen, took a photo of the driver/van that did it, and got their registration plate. Bit of a result, this time they won't be getting away with the damage!

Does anyone know how I can find out the insurance company that insures a particular registration plate? Want to get in touch with them to get them to pay out.

Same happened to my Dad a few years ago. He contacted his insurer with the reg number taken by a passerby. His insurer contacted the person who hit his car and sorted the claim out. Good service all round!

I would contact the insurers and the police for fleeing the scene of an accident.

They deserve any punishment they get, I cant stand people who hit a car and drive off. I had it last year and it caused about £500 worth of damage to my car.

Good point... I think I will report it to the police, at least maybe they won't do the same thing again to someone else if the consequences are a bit more severe.

Did you actually read the OP??
The free check won't tell him the details of the insured car, the insurer, policy numbers etc - that's what he was after!

Bloody annoying, but much respect to the person who saw it and gave you the details. Definately work a nice bottle of wine in return.

Yep, will definitely sort him out with a bottle of wine or two. Think he was angrier with the guy who drive in to me than I was!

Yep, but if it comes up as not on the database, then it will save him the £3.50! smile

Speak to your insurance company. Someone hit my car in the communal car park of the block of flats I lived in. No-one saw but I noticed the damage on his car. He denied it so I phoned my insurance company and they were able to use some insurance database to find out who his insurer is. My legal cover then kicked in and they took his insurer to court.

Took about two years but I won and got my excess back biglaugh All I had was a couple of photos, I think if the damage is small it is cheaper for the other insurer to pay up than fight it in court.

Slightly off topic, I had a visit from two very nice policemen last year. A punter had reported me, he claimed that as I opened my drivers door to get in my car in ASDA car park, my door hit his mirror.

A. If I had and seen someone in the car, I would have apologised. You would, wouldn't you!
B. If I had I would have been checking my car for damage.

The police admitted there was no damage to the punters mirror, still took 2 policemens 30 mins of time, and a statement to which I added at the bottom, "In my opinion, the driver is lying".

Some mothers do av them.
