280i - Headlamp Pods. No Gasket?
Discussion
I recently spent some quality time with the head lamp pods on my 280i. Things work, and look, much better now. But, I'm curious about something. The bucket/pods don't use that ubiquitous rubber backing gasket that so many of the British cars I've owned/had experience with have used. My '76 2500M, my '67 Elan, my brother's '70 Europa uses this rubber gasket, in fact they are the same gasket, that fits between the GRP and the metal headlamp bucket.
Did TVR just not fit this gasket to the Wedge headlamp pods, or is my car missing them?

Mine has them too, but they will soon be replaced with new ones made from some firestone 1mm rubber that was left over from my pond liner.
It has come in handy for loads of stuff!
If you are local to Gravesend Ill knock up a couple for you.

Hmmm, OK just looked at your profile, might be a bit far to travel!
Ill stick em in the post if you want some!

I greatly appreciate the offer, but I'd rather not put you out to post these to the US. I did offer up the gaskets I've got to the pods to see how they might fit. These gaskets have molded depressions where screws would pass through the gasket, but the holes aren't open. Lining things up, it looks as though the holes in the metal buckets and the GRP pods don't quite line up with with the depressions in the gasket. Close, but not exact. I've got to figure out some way to transfer some marks. I'm figurin' that the best thing to do would be to take the buckets out, fit the gaskets to the buckets lining up the gaskets with the holes in the buckets, then cut holes in the gasket with sharp drill bit of the right size. Uh, or something like this...Stu

I can make a copy of them both on some paper and mail it to you, then you can cut your own from some rubber gasket...Simples!!
Mail me you address and Ill be playing with the car on the weekend, so I can do it then!
All for the price of a stamp too, and Im sure I can stand you that!

I imagine the rubber gaskets were hangovers from the days of steel bodyshells, where they would help to cut down electrolytic corrosion and maybe add some vibration damping to help filament life.
All of which is kind of immaterial on a wedge
I was kinda thinkin' something like this myself. Some folks have them on their Wedges, some don't.All of which is kind of immaterial on a wedge
