I currently have a '03 Boxster with factory-fitted 18" Carrera wheels. I want to track the car, but it is very expensive to scrub the 18" rubber, and I have been offered a set of 16" wheels + tyres VERY cheap. Even if I got only a couple of trackdays out of them I would be happy.

My question is this: Is there any problems changing the wheel size down? It's only for track use, so anything to do with the speedo isn't a problem. I'm looking for damage to car or implicitly dangerous.

My OPC tell me they don't recommend it as it will affect PSM and ABS...but given the boxster can be supplied with 16" wheels as standard, I don't understand why, and they couldn't explain it.

Anyone here got any opinions?

Did Box 'S' ever come with 16 inch as standard? thought 17'' was the smallest?

Can't see any ABS issues, PSM tho hmm not sure but can't see an issue either- anyway it should be firmly switched off on track anyway!

Just thinking that if the 'S' didnt have 16'' you may have probs ref the front brakes with the 16'' wheels (are they Box wheels?) coz even they do fit its gunna be tight & if they are after market non porker jobbies you are just guessing if they will fit, i guess you won't know without trying them.

I heard that the 16's won't go over the big brakes on the S.

It's a standard box I've got, and they are standard 16" boxster alloys, so my feeling is it should be fine....after all the OPC will be happy to take your money to upgrade, so why not allow a downgrade!
