I have just finished cleaning my car after about 4 and a half hours, and took it for s quick spin afterwards, and my god it feels quick, so is it just me, or does anyone else find it weird that their car feels quicker when its clean?

It would be interesting to do some scientific study on this, above 100mph there has to be some improvement, but looking at the Le Mans 24hrs where they only clean the cars before the final lap, if they have the time, it must be a very marginal improvement.

You should probably stop driving while you're high.

very good. There was some lad on a corsa forum who said that one, but meant it. Am I the only one who feels this then? Obviously it makes no difference, but its strange that it feels quicker.

Obviously he is right, it makes it faster because it lowers the center of gravity!!

Could there actually be any scientific fact behind this though?

Surely, a car covered in crap (such as the one above) would be less aerodynamic than the same car with beautifully shiny and slippery polished paintwork?

I realise that the difference would probably only be measurable to the minutest of measurements, but surely, it would make some kind of difference?

yep - witness how they always give F1 cars a wipe whenever they get back to the garage.

Think that's so the sponsors' names and logos can be seen.

Golfballs.

Dimpled golfballs travel further than smooth ones. If you're particularly interested, look for an episode of american TV show Mythbusters where they covered a Ford Taurus in clay and cut dimples into it. Confirmed that dimpled car got better MPG.
