Hi all. I'm looking to insure A 40K M3 at the end of this week and the 2 best quotes are from Adrian Flux and Elephant. Adrian Flux is almost £200 more than Elephant at £985, but I have to admit I like the fact Adrian Flux have sufficent telephone services for queries etc. Am I wrong to be put off by Elephant? They must be governed by a body that stipulates certain requirements for Insurance providers?

I never knew Admiral owned them! That makes me feel a little better to be honest!! They've given me a cracking quote! I'm 34, one SP30, fault claim for £4200 3 years ago, car garaged away from home address, £775.65 with a £500 excess. I thought that was pretty good!

Yeah I like messing around with Elephant because the calculations are so quick!

"I wonder what happens if I put in a £60000000 accident?" etc smile

I'll fly the flag for Adrian Flux here. There's a lot to be said for being able to pick up the phone and talk to an intelligent well trained representative.

I was previously insured with Elephant and whilst I didn't have any specific problems with them they never struck me as the most switched on when I picked up the phone to talk to them.

Have you tried asking AF to match Elephant's quote?

Elephant offer cheap insurance for regular, low risk car/driver combos. They charge for stuff like green cards.

Flux are a specialist insurer, and for my group 50 car were about 30% cheaper than Elephant (my previous insurer) and offered a significantly more comprehensive policy with a big name underwriter (NIG).

No offence to Elephant, but I don't think I'd want to insure, say, an Aston with them (if, indeed, they insure them).

I think I'll call some specialist insurance companies today and ask for a price match.

I wad with elephant for years untill they screwd me over 3 points I forgot to declare, they chased me hard and long to get back dated premium back. Considering I had been a loyal customer I thoght their lack of flexability was disgusting. I would avoid them them and go with a smaller less corporate outfit.

I'm 100% with elephant on this one - no-one "forgets" to declare 3 points, you tried it on, got caught and are now bitter about it. They just went up in my estimation.

um no actually, the renewal up to that point was automatic.... I hadn't spoken to them for a bout 4 years, I thought the renewal was a bit steep so called them up to see if it was correct, and at that point told them I had 3 points from 4 years ago, I was not trying to hide anything, I even renewed with them on good faith that they would give me some time to come up with the extra money(£1200), instead they went back on that and canceled my insurance and kept my premium. They ended up getting debt collection agency onto me who I did a deal with.

Flux are OK until you go to get a courtesy car, change your address, or even ring them. "That'll be £35 admin charge sir". They wouldn't even cover a courtesy car (1.2 Corsa on a policy for a modified Astra).

That would of itself be a reason why I wouldn't go with them.

Generally good reviews by anyone who has not had a claim.

Everyone who has claimed - <ahem!> not so good!

I've got both of my cars with Elephant and have been fine until this week when I wanted to simply update my address after moving. Not sure if they have some of their people off-shore now, but they had problems in making the changes I required. It's put me off a bit and I'll be shopping around when it comes to renewals.

Your renewal states if nothing has changed in your circumstances. How can you possibly say you did not try to hide anything? On the rear of your insurance it lists any claims/convictions, yours said none when you knew full well you has 3 points!

I've been with Elephant for a while now, i've never made a claim (touch wood) so obviously do not know what they are like from that POV but price wise they have always been the cheapest by far for me.

When talking to them they have always been helpful, sometimes you get someone with a strong Welsh accent but that's about it(if you call in the evening you get through to Canada).
