How do some students afford to run petrol head cars?
Discussion
I think you were right with the parents money idea, tbh. Im in Year 13 at my school and every single person in my year with a licence either has a car of their own, or regular use of their parents, and none of them are bangers. Noone could afford to buy one of these on a part time sales assistant wage!

Actually, why be so rude TD? Don't feel bad about it - my uni run around was a P reg 1.1 106, which was affectionately called 'the s
tbox'.
You're by no means alone and you should feel good about being self-sufficient instead of riding off mum and dad's coat tails; it teaches you useful lessons for later in life. And when you get to buy a car you really want, it'll feel all the much better knowing you earnt it!
Might want to sort the fuel leak though - that's bad times. I'd DIY if i were you, or since you're graduating soon when you get a job get rid of the Saxo for something you really want. Borrow funds from the parental unit justifying it with you needing a reliable ride to get to work

I run both an MX5 and a 600cc bike as a student - I bought both of them with my own money and funnily enough use my own money to run them.
Then again my iphone was second hand from ebay and put on 02 pay as you go; most of my clothes come from either Matalan or Asda, not that I buy clothes often.
You work two jobs and only have £40 left at the end of the month? What are your outgoings??

. As for studies, one could always do better

That's nothing, couple of students round here with Range Rover Sports, 330 convertibles, Golf R32s.
Some people have parents that spoil them rotten, regardless of whether they can afford it or not.
Be grateful that you will grow up to not be a
because your parents have refused to hand everything to you on a plate.

Some of the guys at my college have classic MG's
I do hope they are MGB GT's!I expect a lot of other people get help from mummy and daddy / Family. For instance my 19 year old friend is running around in a 1 or 2 year C2 his aunt bought him.
Just to (try) and make you jealous, I'm 16 and I have a classic MG

Some of them do alot of working after school/college/at weekends so i guess they have money to dive into ( how much i am unaware ). Most teenagers get a car bought for them ( my first was bought for me for a few hundred but then i just paid for my following cars from there on) and their mums/dads fill them up/insure/tax/mot/service etc etc.
Some people are in better positions than others, you will be used to saving hard for your money, which you will be gratefull for in many years to come. So dont take it as a downside, you might just have to wait a little while longer to get something decent that you have worked hard for!

What a shame being stuck with a car. I'm afraid I'm one of those students you hate - I bought my 1976 MGB GT for £950, and have put all my own time and money into making it the car it is today. Yep, it's not fantastically quick, practical or cheap to run, but who cares when you're having some RWD fun? Some of the guys at my college have classic MG's
Man up.
That is all.
