Without naming the large national company with a large email and other media marketing budget, I believe they are a bunch of thieving, devious, arseholing bds.

2 weeks after a full service and just a few hundred miles over 60K, my turbo unit gave up on the A43. Got it recovered by my own recovery and despite paying for their 'premier' cover at a franchised dealer to do the repair, I happily let bmy trusted local garage do the work. So they have already saved £350.

First they complained the turbo unit was too expensive and insisted on supplying it themselves. Then they wanted proof that I had paid the last two service invoices (which was no easy task as one was by cheque nine months ago and my bank have a delay and a charge for copies of cheques and older statements). Eventually they authorised the repair which cost £370. I sent in the claim and they sent a cheque for £158 after deducting everything except the cost of fitting the turbo unit. They have refused to pay to have the oil properly cleaned from the intercooler, or the removal and refitting of exhausts to remove the excess oil which days of running had failed to burn off. they had deducted £50 Excess (fair enough). I pointed out that the need to clean the intercooler and exhaust was a consequence of the turbo failure but they said 'cleaning' was not covered, blamed the underwritewrs and and simply referred me to their compliaints dept email address, who haven't responded. I can find nothing in the policy excluding 'cleaning' and in any event, running the new turbo without cleaning the 'consequential' oil from the intercooler was asking for more trouble IMHO.

I wonder if they fancy a day in small claims court?

I've only had one dealing with such a company after the wides head gasket went pop on her zr. There's a thread on here somewhere.

Like you I saved the warranty company money buy taking to a mates garage who did it for a decent price.

Can't remember the exact details bit they only paid for about 2/3's of the work.

The warranty came with the car, if I had paid an annual fee if have been even more pissed off!

Mine was a paid warranty, bought for just such a failure and cost me about £360. I have had previous waranties with them and never used them.

I could understand them arguing if I hadn't had it serviced but it had been done well within the required times. their claims dept weren't interested and were unable to break down the deductions. They batted me straight to complaints dept.

In a former life, long time ago now, we had to deal with numerous "Extended Warranty" companies.

It is my view that they will use just about every trick in the book to underpay, or wiggle their way out of it any payment!.

Saying that, on recent occasions I have had to claim, I had no issues. (Head Gasket on BMW 5 Series, Steering Rack on Civic)

Result. Had a call from their compliants manager after a second email. Seems the claims dept had not added some of the other materials and parts on the payment and a cheque for the missing money is on its way.

Peanuts: Monkeys.

The fact they were able to sort it and apologise will probably keep my business this summer at renewal but I agree that the game seems to be to avoid paying at all cost.

My daughter has cancelled her warranty as a result of my experience, mainly because it highlighted that SHE WIL HAVE TO SERVICE THE CAR, not just Google how to turn off the service light.

name and shame!

i do want to know, and would also like to know if anyone had good luck with one of these companies? as i'm considering a warranty on my next pricey car (running cheap ones at the moment because of the miles i do)

Sounds like they are a bunch of theives to be honest, how can they quibble about removing the exhaust - its NEEDS done, you cannot change the turbo without removing the exhaust from a car, its bloody attached!
