I'm fed up with not earning any interest with savings acounts so I thought of saving for a classic car (or bike) that would naturally become more desiresble over the next 3,5 even 10 years. Want to put away between 8-15k.

Idealy I would rather something that doesnt cost too much to run or keep together. I have enough indoor storage space so will probably not use said vehicle save the odd sunny day so it could be as uneconomical as one could wish for!

So looking at the current market, and the the possible economic collapse that may well happen in the next year or so, any suggestions? I plan to save now and buy then. I'll keep it open for now and then say what cars came to my mind. Over to you

Any sort of stripped out Porsche seems to be a safe bet. For your budget I guess that means a 968 Clubsport.

Or, rather than buying something that is already popular (like the Clubsport) you could take a risk (but spend less money) by trying to pick something that's currently unloved, in the hope it becomes desirable one day - a Mercedes SL perhaps. The R107 used to be a bit 'Dallas' but they're starting to fetch good money now. The shape after that (not sure what it's called - the 1990's one) can be had for peanuts but who knows - a good one might be worth decent money once they're an uncommon sight.

I would get an E30 M3 or a Merc 2.5-16 and if possible within budget an EVO (not EVO II).

These cars are reliable, fantastic 4 pots, racing pedigree (DTM), superb handling, already classics so a good one will keep its value !

Is it not a bit late for the OP now? I had a vague idea good E30 M3s were already beyond his budget, although I haven't checked prices recently.

Dunno tbh. Are they really more than £15k these days?

That's interesting, nobody has said yet what I thought originally of saving for. A 60's muscle car.

An how much will you have to pay to store and maintain this car? You need to look at your annual costs as well as the initial purchase price if this is going to be an investment.

I have ample storage and don't plan to do many miles, I think this would keep costs down depending on what car it is I guess. Would you agree?

Up to a point. But you are still going to need an annual service at a specialist to maintain the resale value. You will need to do this regardless of mileage.
