Hi,

I've started to experience this a few months ago but of late its been getting more noticeable.

When the Sag is hot, around 20 minutes of driving time, she will shudder from the rear when releasing the clutch in 1st gear. The shudder only occurs just before the clutch is fully engaged and its fine when cold, or any other gear.

Clutch and m/s cylinder was replaced about 2000 miles ago, and new engine mounts about 400 miles ago..

So anyone else think I'm looking at a new diff?

..And if so what one should I go for? (I'm not doing a 4.3/4.5 conversion any-time soon frown )

Thanks,

Jim

If it is the diff then you're talking the crown wheel & pinion. Lots of options, some depending on which gearbox you have fitted - do a search on this forum.

Could also be a prop problem or even a gearbox problem. If you roll down a hill slowly and take up drive what happens? (i.e. so the diff/prop and already moving a bit).

I had my engine mounts replaced and had bad vibration/ almost stalling but when COLD. If the problem started after the mounts were done I would look into seeing if they are the correct ones and the engine is aligned correctly. I tried some new ones meant to be able to resist heat a bit better but they were not made to the correct dimensions it seems as original design mounts re-installed and perfect again.

Had both the 'soft' (original) engine mounts, which last 200 miles due to the extreme cold over the winter. I've now a heat resistant mount on the exhaust side and a hardened mount on the other side..

.. but I'm pretty sure I noticed the shuddering last summer (when very hot), it was on the original TVR mounts (afaik).

Thanks for the info Targarama, I will find a hill at lunch time biggrin

i have this happen very intermittantly, did it whilst one of the guys at power was driving it.

He suggested maybe copperslip on clutch mating faces or a boken retainer spring, either way not a big worry in his opinion...my clutch has done 10k.

Jim, I had exactly the same problem with my T350 last year with the same symptoms when hot which took a bit of investigating...

I'd also recently had a new clutch + slave, replaced engine mounts etc.. and was stuck until Richard from TrackVRoad mentioned a similar problem on a Tuscan that was cured by skimming the flywheel.

Im not technical but apparently they tend to score over time and with use??? and when hot it is maginifed due to the expansion which results in the shudder. Mine had got really quite bad but when they did the 12k they sent the flywheel to be skimmed and it was 100% afterwards.

Hope that helps

does it also happen in reverse if you bring the clutch up slowly?

sounds like engine mount, mine just went, was doing similar thing, nearside one goes a lot...
