Myself and the Lovely Kit80 are heading over to the Nurburgring for a short trip but I haven't stayed over there before.

Can anyone recomend a nice/quaint and fairly cheap place to stay somewhere near the Nurburgring? (Doesn't need to be right on the track)

Looking to go on the last weekend of May (as the track is open all day Sunday 30th for tourist laps), somewhere rustic B&B type would be nice.

Any help or links appreciated

I've stayed at the second one on the list, very friendly and recently refurbed I think.

I know a really good place, but I'm not telling unless you promise to stop telling crap F1 jokes on the jokes thread.

Been going here for years, great Hotel for the price and its a 5/10 min drive, so starts to get the car warmed up nicely before a lap.

I've stayed at The Altes Forsthaus before (http://www.ringhaus.com/). The rooms are basic, but the bar is nice, the staff are great, it's a matter of yards to the main entrance and the beer is cold. Not a luxury hotel by any stretch, but excellent value.

Best place by miles is Hotel Burgstube:

www.burgstube.com

Run by Martin and Heidi, it is really good value, the beer is good and the food is excellent. Its also underneath the Nurburg castle, so in terms of location is absolutely perfect.

(I used to live in Nurburg, and this is the only place I stay when I visit now)

Am Tiergarten is my favourite and is owned by Sabine's family. The Pistenklause restaurant is good value and do steaks on hot stones, pasta etc

I disagree with you there !

There are many restaurants in the area that offer better VFM in my opinion. I've been to the PK several times, but don't go anymore, its too expensive.

Another vote for the Burgstube from me too, great hosts and good value. Slidersguesthouse is another recommended place to stay, a little further away but good accomodation and great host.

Blau Ecke in Adenau ... wink

The simple answer is there are LOADS of great places to stay, however, at this point to get rooms for a popular weekend only a few weeks away, well ..., I think you'll have to take whatever you can get.

I like the PK - it's a great meeting place, the factory folks use it, always people with common interests to chat with.
I think it IS good value - IF you stick to pizza/pasta - if you do go the for steaks etc. (apart from gassing everyone with those horrific stones) then the bill soon mounts up. Also lay off Patricio's lovely wine list if you're on a budget!

Just booked our second trip and staying at the burgstube again,

Only met Martin and Heidi for a few days last year but seamed top people,

Martin took time out to give us 4 novices a lot of very useful information and tips, which I'm sure reminded us of the dangers of the ring, something I personally think first timers need to hear in a very blunt way.

Rooms were nice, clean, and a reasonable size. Decent beer and food, big car park and only an minute from the ring, what more could you want!

Agreed - sure its a nice place and I go once every visit to the Ring but I wouldn't say good value when compared to somewhere like Pinocchio's...huge pizza's and a beer for about 9 euros!

With the accomodation though, you really can't go wrong anywhere, I have stayed in 4 different places and they were all absolutley fine, some were brilliant but these days just be happy if you and your mates can all get in the same place at late notice.

I'm wondering if I could do a family holiday at the ring for 2wks. I'll be off having fun but is there enough for the wife and two young girls to do ? They have no interest in motorsport.

There are a bunch of things to do/see - but 2 weeks does seem optimistic.
My family like the park near Cochem - http://www.freizeitpark-klotten.de/
and the Wolf park in Gerolstein - http://www.adler-wolfspark.de/index-2.htm
and there are vineyards, shopping trips (Koln and Koblenz), horse riding, cycling, etc.
There is the CentreParcs out past Kelberg - http://www.centerparcs.com/EN/FR/villages/park_hei...
and a bunch of other things. A casino?

But still, 2 weeks?

Stayed there a couple of times myself. Nice place, great location. Little pricey though.

Usually stay here: http://www.agnesenhof.de/

About a ten min drive to the 'ring. Lovely location, reasonably priced, the German lady that runs it with her husband speaks excellent English and is the perfect hostess. Hubby is a top chef and chucks the best bbq you could ever imagine!

But as has been mentioned previousely - most places in the area are good value have plenty of character along with endless supplies of excelent German beer beer
