I have got £60 and three points for defective tyre. I agree, the tire was worn under the limit; it was about 1,3 mm. The copper wrote 'driving with a tyre with cords exposed', but the cord was not exposed. Does it make a difference, would it be a different offence or the penalty less sever, or should I accept it as it is?

You're an idiot for driving with a bald tyre. Be glad you got off as lightly, and didn't end up crashing and killing someone.

Simply put, you haven't got any leg to stand on.

Law states you need a mimimum of 1.6mm of tread, you said you had 1.3mm , thus in breach of the law.

As far as i'm aware thats the standard penalty for low tread, low pressure etc. Even on the spare IIRC.

I'm not trying to wiggle out of anything, just don't want to be sure I will be endorsed for the right thing.
