Is anyone who's going worried about this? I'm flying to Milan early on Saturday morning and then taking a hire car down...

Was considering buying Eurostar tickets as contingency incase all the air space gets shut down...

I would be worried. Canneries airspace closed at 0400GMT this morning, Casablanca has also closed some of their airspace. And the ash maps provided by the met office do not make pleasant viewing.

Worst case a ferry across is shockingly cheap, £7.50 each way with Norfolkline today

Where are you based as someone has mentioned a Ferry?(To the South of France or a days driving across France to get to the Cote De Zur??) Not heard of French airspace being closed so Nice airport is a possibility but Eurostar is your safest bet. I have family stuck in Marbella as all flights from Malaga were cancelled today BUT a friend managed to get to Alicante this morning so it is a bit hit & miss.

Followed by approx 900 mile each way drive, its a slog in one hit, used to do it overnight when heading down to Grasse, get a late afternoon ferry and blat through the night, get there for breakfast !

I'll be setting off from London...
I agree that, if needs be, a late evening ferry across the channel followed by an all night drive is the way to go!
That said, it'll be a bugger getting back when the pre-race adrenaline has worn off...

Graham weve been looking at it and decided that a Thurs night crossing followed by a Fridat Blat in the S4 should see us having dinner in NIce!

maybe see you at the weekend.
