which of these cars would you have?
Discussion
I'm on the look for a new car to replace my hopefully sold TVR chimaera
so far, i have a short list of
Porsche boxster 2.7 possible the bigger one if i can find right spec
crossfire
350z
i was thinking mustang, but in reality the practicality of driving lhd every day is not a pretty thought
now, ive never driven any of the above, but they all tick a lot of boxes
or would you be looking at something else? budget 8 to 9k

Boxster
I cant believe the crossfire is even on that list - I have always wondered who would ever consider buying those odd things

To the OP, what are you after? An out and out sports car or more of an everyday prospect? Not driven a Z but the Boxster is brilliant.

dont rate the boxter myself, personaly i would go for the 350z. have you considerd a skyline for the fun factor
skyline is too dated looking, too bland inside and to be honest, ive done the jap thing matethe crossfire, i like the look of, never even sat in one, so based purely on looks at this time
boxster was my first choice, but reading up, im worried about the problems with gearbox and rms?

When I had my mid-life crisis, I compared the Corvette, Z3/Z4, 350Z, Boxter, S2000, MX5 and SLK - the Mustang didn't even rate because it is a 'run of the mill' car. I just wanted something nippy, comfortable, 'classy' and big enough for me (6'3").
The thing here is - what you are really looking for - the fact that you had a 'Chim' implies that you want to be different from the 'herd'. I compared the same cars as you over here in the States (excluding the 'Stang') and the SLK came out on top.
Of course, it is not my daily driver (could be from a comfort point of view) but it checked all the boxes of performance, comfort and value.
All of the cars I looked at had their appeal, but the SLK for me, provided the best depreciation/performance/luxury ratio.

you'll get used to LHD so quickly it won;t be a problem... look at a late model C4 Corvette fun, fast, unusual, cheap power up-grades, engine note!
i did look at these, i love the look. but, and this puts me off so much, for my budget, id be looking at a car a lot older than the porsche, nissan. Went through this same choice myself last year.
Boxster's are awesome, though moving from the Chim you will miss the sense of occasion. The S2000 just didn't do it for me, the sound is fun for a couple of blasts but most of the time it's like driving a Civic 1.8.
I really liked the 350z. You sit low, with a high window line and there is bags of torque in second and third. The Brembo brakes were impressive too. This is the one I'd go for at your price.
I opted for a 987 Boxster S in the end; a really capable if a little dull car. I sold it and am now looking for something with a bit more noise, so maybe a Shelby GT 500 or a Corvette CO6.

If you're after a soft-top then it'd be the Boxster or an S2000 for me.
I've had a couple of 350z's as company cars and they are great fun, but if it was my money it would be the Boxster. My Cayman was a far better car than the Z in terms of build quality and driver feedback, ok the boxster may not be as quick as the Z, I just think overall it is the better ownership proposition. Plus I can see the Z being owned by the Max Power brigade in the not too distant future.

You do realise that a crossfire is based on a Merc SLK? (the original girly one not the current model)
but without the tidy design or 'ground breaking' roof.___________
out of those cars i'd have a boxster.
don't really know what the budget (edited to say oh b
ks we do!)is but you've also got to consider (in very different ways):alpina (z4) roadster (probably struck out too!)
e46 m3 coupe
some sort of elise
....
z3m roadster.
or a prefacelift 3.0 z4

Martin, Chap I work with is selling his 350Z. He's had it from new & it's only done 14k miles, 04 Reg. He's looking for about £10.5k I think. It's a genuine beauty.
