A Few weeks ago I had my van clamped while visiting a company in South Benfleet. The reason I was clamped was the fact that my van was overhanging the marked bay by about 20mm. I was told my the staff at the company that this clamping firm wait for shoppers to park up then clamp them and go around the corner to the café, and wait for the phone to ring and the £120 that comes with it. Many people have been clamped who work on the site, even when showing a permit, the company are total cowboys. When I needed to leave I just broke the 99p padlock off with a crowbar than put the clamp in my van and drove off, making sure I was not seen doing so. Later that week, me and the clamp returned to Benfleet to the same company, this time I parked round the corner. When leaving I noticed the clampers van unattended, with 2 cars in the car park clamped. Assuming they had gone to the café I took the opportunity to return the clamp, to the offside rear wheel of there van, this time however the clamp had the biggest lock possible to fit the clamp, and to add to there problems they had parked on a large amount of dry cardboard that had been placed by a dustbin, so an angle grinder would have been out of the question unless they wanted a fire under there van. Next time they fill up and open the filler flap they will find the padlock keys.
Unfortunately I could not wait about to see the result.

Would have been an even better touch if it had said 'next time they open the filler flap they will find the padlock keys snapped off in the filler cap.'

Nonetheless a great story. Well done that man!

Too right, there are too many cowboy companies run by morons clamping anthing that stands still. My brother had to pay stupid money to get his car back.

Just think, next they'll be nice black round stickers to go over the lenses on speed cameras.

If money's an issue, cut the tyre, or pull some fuses and get home on your recovery company low loader.

Had you been caught you would probably have been shafted!

Some things are worth the risk and you pulled it off nicely!

Congrats!

I really hope they dont find the keys before they struggle to get the clamp off!!

About 18 years ago I saw a massive builder type removing a clamp in Birmingham New Street short stay car park with a 10 LB long handled hammer.

And this little asian railway employee attempting to reason with him.

It was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

The bloke was very patient with the railway man, saying that he had 2 choices : 1 he could stand well back to avoid being hit, or 2 he could stand in front of the clamp and try to defend it.
After about 15 hits the clamp seemed to turn to butter and was handed to the asian man with a smile.

Then bloke drives off in his van as if it were a regular occurance. I was waiting watching cause I wanted the space !!!!

For what? Criminal damage of the padlock? You could impound their clamp and charge them a release/storage fee
