I'm having a 'heated' debate shall we say with someone who is a Labour councillor, when i put to him that Labour has screwed the working class, all i get is 'Oh this is another Thatcher that we have onboard now' and Labour is the 'peoples party' and 'the Tories are the bad boys who favour the toffs' Sounds like sour grapes to me.

personally I seem to pay more tax than i ever have done in my life and for me the Labour parties stance on 'The peoples party' is feckin' bullst.

What i'm asking what has Labour done over the last 13 years to screw the average working bloke?

I just need some ammo and facts from the PH massive.

Thanks chaps.

Lifted from another thread:

NuLabour Audit (thanks fbrs)

Figures respectively for 1997 2007 2010

National Debt (Bn) 348bn 500bn 776bn

Budget Deficit (Bn) 0bn 84bn 171bn

Unfunded public pension liabilites 270bn 730bn 886bn (2009)

Inflation (RPI) 3% 4.5% 4.4%

Personal Debt (Bn) 503bn 1346bn 1460bn

FTSE 4800 6500 3900

Industrial Production 10Year Ann Average +1.7% +0.1% -1.6%

Manufacturing Prod 10Year Ann Average +1.9% +0.5% -1.1%

Then perhaps ask them to explain how this was the fault of Thatcher?

Why not? I think it should be posted on the front pages of all National Newspapers.

What have they ever done for the working man?

Well, they've just fked off. That's got to be number one on the (short) list of positives.

Fair point. I just meant I didn't want to see it all in one go.

What has the labour government done for the working man (me)?

Well, I pay more tax than I ever did. I have seen the dropping of values, standards and service levels from all government bodies. I see more and more long-term unemployed getting more and more money through different mechanisms. I see whole sections of society abandoned and left to rot in their own hell, with public money thrown at them from a limitless pot. I see rising crime and the threat of crime and more importantly significantly more and more red tape that prevent the UK, business and people from actually doing anything.

And they have left us with the highest budget deficit we have ever seen. And they still say they are the best for the nation? Phah.

as someone in a manual labour industry, they have put my tax up, and the price of fuel up, which in turn has put up the price of food, and the price of gas and electricity is also steep, also stealth taxes.

I agree, if i was living in a council house and on benefits then i would vote labour.

but as a working man i think the benefit + immigration systems is a joke.

i know various people claiming job seakers but work, i know various people claiming to be homeless claiming housing benefit but living at the mums ( diff surname a now married again )

its far far too easy and i think DC speach about it should be what can i offer rather what do i get and what can i do rather what am i owed.

Well they decreased social mobility and increased the rich/poor divide, so now we have more poor people.

That's not what you meant was it?

It's strange to think that they have just ficked off and left a huge mess with no accountabiity.

If it were you or I, we would be in the deepest of st... even if we walked away from it.

I have a feeling i would be unemployed for the rest of my life if i had the track record of your average MP, yet they will have fat pensions and directorships and consultancy deals coming out of their arses when they decide they don't want to be politicians any more..

It must be nice to be in that club!
