The Commission said its aim was to help prevent another EU financial crisis.

Is this a good or a bad thing for the UK?

Did you really need to ask?

If we get a referendum on anything EU, despite what CMD said, I will poke a hole in my scrotum and pour some vinegar in there.

Can't go upsetting the grand scheme or the people Germano-Francs in charge.

That BBC article is a bit mystifying. The measures are only intended for the eurozone, yet they are quoting the moaning of a Swedish leader who is (a) outside the euro (b) apparently in a position to pass all the tests anyway.

I really don't think the Germans care too much about the UK budgetary position, they have enough to deal with holding the euro together.

I think the subtext is that the governments in most trouble are craving a bit of a "special measures" kicking by the EU, so that they can sell unpopular austerity measures to their electorate. So they'll bh and moan in public whilst secretly being quite pleased to have another bogeyman to blame alongside the IMF.

It's all going a little too far. Finland will borrow 12 billion in the coming year. 1.6 billion of that will be given in the form of loans to the Greeks furious Where does it all end?

Well, they want to harmonise all the countries, as a step towards a super state.

But they can f**k right off.

I gather there are some other entertaining cashflows to be had in this lot.

It's a huge ponzi scheme and the growth which powered it has gone away.

Merkel and Monsieur Onion can do all they like, but it's looking pretty sick.

You could interpret it as them seeking to minimise damage to themselves, hence all the anguish....

When our time comes, it will come and you can't have petty nationalist plebs standing in the way of our future glory, comrade.

We will not be allowed to influence it's path.

I doubt they will even pay it lip service.

"We won't join the Euro for the forseeable future" said ConDem Nation.

We will eventually, come thick or thin, or whether it is proven or not, as they are utterly hell bent on it.
