The Welsh Assembly has given a grant of over £900k to pay for 'improvements' for a travellers site in Withybeds. This isn't just a freebie though; the council has increased the rent for the 9 nine families that live there from £35 to £60 a week.

So that's over £100k per family in 'improvements'. And each family only has to pay £60 per week in rent banghead

I'm hoping such stories as this and illegal immigrants getting £5m mansions in Kensington (probably not true but you get what I mean) are reduced to zero under this new government. Perhaps we might have to ship out Clegg, Cable and co in the middle of the night to Afghanistan in just union jack boxers to achieve this.

Improvements to site for travellers
Site. For travellers.

The area or exact plot of ground on which anything is, has been, or is to be located. For a person or thing that moves or goes from one place or point to another.

How deliciously contradictory. Glad my taxes are being spent on this st.

Surely a water pipe and shower head doesn't costs 900k? Seriously, WTF are they spending 900k on?

Odds on the local council will appoint them contractually to do the works themselves. So Mr Pikey Ltd puts in his price, does half a job, dumps all his ste down a country lane and gets paid for ripping us off not once but at least three times. Come on CMD/Cleggy do your stuff.

An illegal pikey site near where I used to live got some upgrades like this and a week after they were given the keys to the shower blocks/community centre they had striped it of anything of value to sell. Utter fking waste.

The Sussex article I linked to said £15m on pikey campsite upgrades in the SE. So nationwide, possibly a tenth of a much needed billion pounds, in a year, on black market thieving pikeys, spent by the old Labour shower.

Thank fk they're out.
