I currently have a 2.0l pinto in my Westfield kitcar. Ive bought a Dunnell prep'ed 1.8 Zetec with dry sump. Ive done lots of reading and ive got myself well and truely confused. The Zetec will fit onto the original type-9 gearbox, but the clutch is baffling me. Im selling the pinto complete so wont have the pinto clutch/flywheel to use.

So I need to buy...
Flywheel...ive bought a ultralight one from Turbosport
Mondeo clutch cover 93BG7563AA?
Sierra 1.8CVH friction plate 93BG7550AA?
Capri release bearing Quinton Hazel part CCT133?
Spigot bearing 1596468 pinto bearing?
Use the pinto bellhousing/clutch release arm & bearing?

My Dad built the car in 1990 and ive inherited it. Im car mad and understand a Haynes manual but im not feeling confident to start/finish this transplant without it going wrong.

Should I just get stuck in? Can anyone help put my mind at rest and explain the procedure in simple terms?

Thanks in advance,

Olly

I dont see why you would use any pinto parts, when it isnt a pinto engine or clutch.

At worst, you may need a friction plate with a sline to suit your gearbox. The zetec one may well be the same spline anyway though.

See the second flywheel under:

Flywheels --> Ford --> Zetec

Use 1.8 Zetec Fly machined to accept Pinto Clutch etc... then retain all same parts as you already have for Pinto install.

Thanks for the replies, I mention using pinto parts as Ford bits are interchangable between the two engines/type 9 gearboxes, its just knowing which 'mate' with which.

Ive heard about machining the 1.8 flywheel to fit the pinto, but the current pinto clutch is an old one and I dont think it will last too long with the extra Zetec power. Due to this I wasnt planning on using it and therefore im still as confused as ever!

To slightly complicate things further ive bought a lightened Turbosport flywheel which I assume is the same as the 1.8 Zetec but until it arrives i wont know for sure.

I went to my local parts place today and they only sell the complete clutches so I cant chop and change. My local scrappie might be able to supply the clutch cover but they dont have one in at the minute. I think Ebay will be my best hope!

Weird.

Any motor factors can buy in clutch parts seperately. They probably just cant be bothered.

In fact....just call Burton Power.

When I did my Zetec 1.8 into Westfield installations I used a QH clutch kit part number QKT690AF which I think is an early Mondeo. This provided the pressure plate and friction plate. Add to this a CCT133 release bearing and a spigot bearing and you should be there. This assumes that the new flywheel has the same drilling as the stock one.

One thing - are the engine mounts welded to the chassis? On my 1991 car they were so I had to cut one off and weld on a plate to which I then bolted the Zetec offside mount. The nearside mount was reusable as is but I went from a 1600 CVH to a Zetec 1.8.

The spigot part number is correct - Ford 1596468.

Jed - can it be that simple??!! after all the reading ive done. QH parts are cheap also and I dont have to buy off rip off Ford!

The Turbosport flywheel is described as ultralight so Im thinking must be based on the 1.8 mondeo so that 'should' marry up.

Can I use the existing clutch release fork from the pinto set up?
And what about the existing pinto bellhousing? I think it will fit fine once the dowels are changed over but ive also heard mention of needing a RS2000 bellhousing?

The engine mounts arent welded on and I'll be buying a set of zetec ones from westfield.

Just a couple more answers and I'll think all have all the parts I need and the confidence to get cracking. Thanks.

I used a 1.8 CVH Sierra clutch in mine with the CCT133 release bearing.

Part numbers are on the tower, hopwfully I'll remember to post them over the weekend. It has a QH kit and cost ~£70.

ETA: I used the following QH parts:
Friction Plate C1189AF
Pressure Plate Q10065
Release Bearing CCT133
