A6 Range Rover L322
Discussion
I've always had the desire to own a Range Rover L322. Not really fussed petrol or diesel but must be Vogue spec ( or HSE with TV sat nav ) if I'm honest the V8 petrol would be first choice , even better if it was on LPG
I'm considering selling my 55 plate Audi A6 (2.7 TDi SE with most options ticked) toward the purchase of an 03/04 model max budget around £14k
My dilemma is that the Audi has never missed a beat in the 18 months or so I've had it , no advisories on the MOT and as it's on the long life service plan , due to the relatively low annual mileage I do I've not even needed to service it , no consumables have needed replacing, brakes etc. It's only real downside is that it is rather bland .
So the plan is to sell that Audi and buy a Range Rover and a cheap <£1000 estate car ( focus / mondeo etc ) for the mundane trips / taking the dog out etc and for my wife to commute the 3 miles or so each way to work and save the Range Rover for days out and special occasions.
I know the L322 is not without it's faults and some minor niggles are more or less guaranteed , along with the possibility of some hefty bills once in a while but I'm hoping this will all seem worthwhile when I get to drive it .
Can any owners or former owners offer any words of encouragement , or not , as the case may be

I had an 03 4.4 Vogue about 3 years ago, loved the car but the depreciation was a shocker. Granted I bought at the wrong time and sold it at an even worse time. Problem wise that i remember when buying mine;
Air Suspension - mega money if it goes wrong.
Climate Control - can pack up due to faulty sensor.
Electric Stearing Rack- Mine broke leaving the wheel in my lap, again the part alone was £1k plus, then labour. Seen at least 2 Range Rovers on the road with what appears the same problem.
Would I get another,

Thanks for the reply , the heater and steering are BMW parts if I'm not mistaken , are they any more likely to fail in the RR than they would fitted to a BMW ?
Air suspension , again the BMW X5 has self levelling rear air suspension but they don't seem to fail as much as the RR.
The one RR I have driven (son in laws) has suffered both compressor failure and heater control failure , both parts were sourced on ebay and a DIY job so I'm not too put off by that , the steering cloumn though

Well the plan is in action , I have bought a 2001 Mondeo Estate 1.8 zetec , not fast or inspiring but it serves the same purpose as the Audi for 10% of the price. I took a deposit on the Audi tonight and I'm off to look at a LPG'd RR Vogue tomorrow. I'm quite looking forward to it now ,I just hope the RR doesn't rape my wallet in the coming months
Well the final par of the plan fell into place today. Just placed a deposit on a 2003 4.4 Vogue / Autobiography .
Black ,with cream leather , gloss walnut cappings Twin DVD screens in the rear with wireless headphones. 2 Former keepers , 100k with FSH . All documentation 2 folders of receipts and best of all its a V8 /LPG. I collect it next Saturday

Sounds a beauty and congratulations on having the balls to go for it - a lovely car.Black ,with cream leather , gloss walnut cappings Twin DVD screens in the rear with wireless headphones. 2 Former keepers , 100k with FSH . However, a 100k mile 4.4 V8 Range Rover will be a bomb to run so could spoil the fun.
£435 per year road tax, £100 to fill the thing up with juice and bills and depreciation will be a shocker - especially with 100,000 miles on the clock - make sure you enjoy every moment.

Only time will tell
