F.A.O Chingford Chimp
Discussion
There isn't to the best of my knowledge a TVR 'specialist' in Chingford, but there is a garage who service & maintain quite a few TVR's (including my own), Bentley Turbo's & other high performance cars. The guy who owns the garage races vintage rally cars, and all the mechanics are mechanics/engineers, not fitters....... Drop me an e-mail & I'll give you contact details

Could you let me know where in Chingford you get your Chimp serviced, I note from an earlier thread that there is a TVR specialist here in chingford. I am hopefully about to buy a Chimera. Thanks in advance
Michael - welcolm to the TVR fold. I also live in Chingford, there's quite a few of us in the area. What are you looking at buying?

I am hoping to buy a 96 'P' Chimera 4.0 which has been owned by one of my bosses from new. I am just waiting for him to tell me exactly how much he wants for it but having looked around should be able to afford it.
Condition is everything when buying a TVR. Make sure that it has either a full TVR Dealer service history or has been serviced by a reputable independant. That means every 6,000 miles or every year if the mileage is low. Check all the paperwork to see what has been done at each service, it might give you some idea of any little problems - leaks, minor electrical problems, etc. Generally the mechanicals are bomb proof, but you do get minor problems with trim rattles, eratic electrics - usually caused by poor earthing. Make sure that the tyres have plenty of life left or you will be spending £200 on fronts and £250-300 on rears.
Remember to get it all checked over by either a dealer or independant prior to purchase for peace of mind. There are loads of 4ltr Chimaeras out there at the moment - it was TVRs most popular model, so don't buy the first one you see and test drive.
Insurance is going to be expensive regardless of which model you buy, the 500 costs the same to insure as the 400 and it's more fun......
Try a 500 and you won't want a 400!
Servicing costs can be fairly reasonable if you stick to independants - Tower View Racing (bottom of M1 near Brent Cross) has a good reputation and is reasonably priced when compaired to the local dealers - TVR Centre (Barnet), Castle TVR (Stanstead Mountfinchet), etc.
