Morning all,

I’m due to fly from Abu Dhabi to Edinburgh (via Schiphol) late this evening. What is the latest on the volcanic ash cloud and it's impact on flights?

Thanks.

Here's the forecast Ash cloud position and concentration for 19:00 UK time this evening,

Ground up to 20,000ft

and higher up 20,000 - 35,000ft

There should be no problems for you at all. No U.K. airports are closed or forecast to be closed, just airports in the Canaries and Madeira islands at the moment.

You then want to click on the London VAAC NWP Volcanic Ash Concentration Charts: Latest charts

These ash concentration charts are far more useful than the previous ones which are also linked on the vaac index page.

It's just not possible to predict with any certainty that far forward.. although provided UK airports are open, you won't need to worry about Cancun being closed by the ash! You will only be able to get an idea a few days before.

Just ensure you take suitable funds for additional accommodation, or credit card etc.

Ok, I'm now worried about our flight on Tuesday lunchtime from Cardiff to Kefalonia. frown

Looks like it is going to be a close call from the predictions, although supposedly moving away east later on Tues/Weds.

I've been lucky up until now, managed 2x euro trips in April dodging the cloud but this time its got me. Not too bad though, currently sending this from coach C somewhere south of newcastle on the eastcoast mainline.

Flight from Edinburgh was cancelled this afternoon

Its not even packed out so could be a lot worse smile

Remember, all airports have live arrival and departure lists on their websites.

Hopefully most airlines are showing cancellations on their websites also.

BHX site is creaking, only one cancellation so far for tomorrow 6:00 am KLM to AMS.

Update expected 22:00 so things may change later.

Must admit in your shoes when it got cancelled today and knowing the prognosis I'd have made a pre-emptive strike and hit the M6 northwards and on to Aberdeen and the Lerwick ferry. That assumes that you HAVE to be there and the consequences of not getting there are severe.

Update:- well BHX are maintaining the airport will open at 0100 Monday, but how much can this be relied upon I don't know. eg their website shows CO26 from Newark arriving at 07:10 yet that flight has been cancelled.

Fingers crossed I guess.
