memory foam matresses

Ok, done lots of searches, been looking for a new matress for months, redoing main room and moved into spare where we had a cheapo memory matress for guests and now LOVE it. So want a high quality densers memory foam matress for main room.
Looking at Tempur higher end stuff but seem very overpriced. I have found Ergofelx stuff that looks great value, but their highest end stuff is comparable only to the Tempur entry level stuff, and this looks like the same for other manufacturers.

So anyone know of a memory foam matress that is comparable to the £1800 or so Tempur ones, that is a more "reasonable" price?

I am looking for one that has 3-4 inches of memory foam that is at least v85 density, then 6 inches at least of other foam also, plus some venting and cooling covers etc. Zip off cover is a bonus. I have looked at pocket sprung and memory foam stuff and the memory foam seems to be only v60 on these.

Any help apppreciated, the net is full of lower end memory foam stuff but the real posh stuff still seems to be Tempur only.

most things i've read say pocket sprung with a layer of quality memory foam is the best all round?

I tried a memory foam mattress and hated it. It was lovely for the first half hour, but kept on going down in the middle until it was uncomfortable. Try to move to one side and you find yourself rolling back into the dip. Mind you it was a Sleepmasters Sensoform mattress (the one where you take off the cover and the two bits of yellow packing foam have come unglued and you can see silly little springs inside that wouldn't support a mouse)

'Sleepmasters' or 'pins in the eyes'? I'll take the pins every time.

Totally disagree old boy, we have one that's pocket sprung on the base and a memory foam top layer on one of the spare beds, pretty much everyone who's slept on it has commented on what a comfy bed it is. So much so we tried it ourselves and can confirm it's comfy as anything, so much so we're buying one for our new bed.

I'd say wait until the summer - then try the memory foam. Ours got very hot, but after that just became very uncomfortable. Now back on a decent pocket sprung, and no probs at all.

Pocket sprung with a decent memory foam layer built in is what i recently bought. Has made a huge difference and is very comfy.

We have a Komfi memory foam matress. I'ts one the best things we have ever bought. SWMBO wasn't all that happy at the initial cost, but 3 years on she thinks it was a bargin.

Ok. Thanks for the info, I've done lots of looking and tried many matresses (including those La Romantica ones but found the memory foam was squished by the tufting between the matress so much it was lumpy to lie on and the memory foam had little effect as a result), and decided I do want an memory foam one. The heat is something I am already used to wiith the cheaper memoryfoam one we have, certainly warm, but kick the covers off yoru feet and all is good!

So I am still looking for an alternative to the HIGH END Tempurs, the Ergoflex I've seen, but they only compare to the entry level tempur stuff, albeit is compare very well to them. I will look at Komfisleep, and I found Kaymed name somewhere, that I will look at. Any other suggestions for a very high end memory foam one?

Got a sleepmasters one I think - cost about a grand few years ago. super comfy and can't sleep on anything else now. They are hot to be in though.

Memory foam is just a copy of the original Dunlopillo Latex Mattresses, developed as a lighter alternative for Space flight (I think). We have a Dunlopillo Memoir and it is absolutley fantastic, cannot recommend it highly enough. You don't get hot and sweaty on it like you can on some of the memory foam mattresses.

Actually latex is a natural foam, and very different to memory foam which is man made.
I've tried latex and found it very springly, compared to memory foam.

In my opinion, every memory foam mattress I have slept on has been wonderful! Whether it was a cheap one, or an expensive one, I have a much more relaxed night's sleep on a memory foam mattress. I wouldn't ever go back to the annoying spring mattresses.

And if you sleep with somebody, memory foam doesn't throw you about as much when they turn over.

I can't comment on the latex mattress you've tried, but ours is definately not springy.
