I'm getting more and more confused over this.

I'm looking to replace my old RRS with either a new model RRS or Disco 4, or possibly an 08 RR Vogue SE with 10k miles on the clock.

Personally, I think I'd prefer the Range Rover even though it is two years old.

The Disco 4 seems to be getting rave reviews and I know that my three kids prefer the seating layout.

The new RRS drives much better than than the older 2.7Tdi but, if I go down this route, I guess that I should then look at the Disco 4 as the more sensible option.

Anyone any advice please? It's doing my head in.....

I was wondering the same thing the other day and I actually decided to go Disco 3 as they seem great value for money at the moment! Changed our FL2 for one.

However I was swaying to the RR as I just think they are nicer cars to be honest, my mum's just ordered a Disco 4 XS and it has all the toys you could want although she has added cameras, heated steering wheel etc but they are quite pricey and I would have a used RR for the same money, think they are fantastic value.

Owned both RRS and RR, I personally think the FFRR is in a different league to the sport.

Unless of course you need lots and lots of space in which case I would get a Disco 4...

FFRR is different class. Dont forget that the D4 and RRS are fundamentally the same car. The RRS is built on a D3/D4 so really only shares some looks with the RR.

I've just been through a similar process. Main family car was a Disco 3. We owned it for over 3.5 years and it was an excellent all round vehicle. I always wanted a FFRR, so I test drove an '09 TDv8 back to back with a new D4. As much as I wanted to find a big difference in favor of the FFRR, there wasn't that much in it and we decided to go for the newer and more versatile D4.

snap - wanted a RR tdv8 but the D4 is almost as good a steer and so much more practical (plus in fairness my children would destroy the plush RR interior within a week). so ordered a top spec D4 to replace our 4yr old D3, quite a long wait sadly and discounts are no where near as good as they used to be, such is the demand.

Took the wife to view the cars today.

She said ' Well you've had two RRS, five Discovery over the years, so why not get the RR?'.

Went for a test ride and very impressed so likely to go down this route.

I didn't test ride the D4 but just felt that the RR was more comfortable and pretty nippy - so probably buying it.

Thanks all!

Davel, what do you want it to do? The RR is getting long in the tooth now, not sure how far LR have moved the product on in terms of dynamics. The interior is v nice mind you. The new 2010MY RRS is a fantastic package in V6 or V8 guise. it is a great Sports car and SUV combined in one, not huge in size mind you. The D4 is however massive, have you really used all that space to date? If the answer is yes, then the RR and RRS are both going to be too small for your needs. The TDV8 will always be more impressive than the TDV6, but the new 3.0 is light years better than the 2.7. I think you need to test a D4. New has gotta be the way to go, get the D4 in the spec you desire......

You driven one?! Range Rover Sport, geddit? The dynamic Response makes this a proper Sports SUV.

Alright, easy. As mentioned above, I have owned a SC RRS for a year as well as Cayenne Turbo and FFRR. I can tell you now that they are no sports car.Yes they are good for their size but I don't think you could ever descibe as you did IMO.

Just jesting! I use the term Sports Car in the most general of senses. A Mazda MX 5 is a Sports car to some, but it isn't an F430! Same as a RRS is not an SUV like a FFRR or Disco 4. That's why I termed it a Sports SUV.

So which did you prefer the Porsche or the RRS? Mind you the new 2010MY RRS is a fabulous package.

No worries! I loved the Cayenne TBH at the time, it just did everything and was hugely fast. Had a sit in the new RRS at Goodwood and it is great inside, also they now have the new 5.0 V8 in it which would be amazing. I think it would be more of a difficult choice now, I owned them both a few years ago. I take your point on the sports car/suv but I think I term a sports car to be a 911 or similar. The weight of these SUVs just makes them heavy to chuck around, RS6s M5s are similar in my book.

I think the other problem with Cayennes/RRSs etc is that the tyres are so limiting off road which is why I love the GTS as it is unashamedly not designed to do anything but go fast on tarmac!

if I was going for those 3 I'd go for the 08 FFRR - assuming you mean a tdv8 engined one?

The new 3.0l tdv6 (as in the 'entry' level RRS and Disco4)is lovely - but I'd still take the tdv8 over it any day.

Still dithering I'm afraid

I loved the drive of the TDV8 Vogue (08) but am being told that they will/are losing value as the new model is around.

For a similar amount of cash the new style RRS is an attractive package and probably a bit more nimble/nippy because the size etc.

The Disco 4 is always the sensible buy but just doesn't appeal. I still think that they are pig ugly even though they have rave reviews.

It sounds like the RRS is the one for you... I think the interior of the new one is fantastic.

Still not as nice as the FFRR,plus no rear courtesy lights and a small rear bench seat, poor for this money.

I would not say that the FF is better than the Disco. They suit differant purposes. For lugging bikes, junk, kids or animals go for the disco as just just would'nt want to ruin the FF interior. If it is an "adult only" car, then the FF is a more refined experience. It has better brakes, better engine, but does seem to roll more.

PS. The Disco has better cup holders.

Well, after having 5 Discovery since 2000 and two RRS, I decided to go for the RR Vogue.

It's an ex-Land Rover car with loads of extras, so looking forward to picking her up at the end of the week.

Stornaway Grey with black leather interior, which is more big kid friendly and far to many things to remember.....

I've got the FFRR SC and it's fantastic. Looked at the Disco/RRS options but whilst the D4 is hugely improved and "getting there" it's still very much a family wagon.

The FFRR does the family wagon for us perfectly but at the same time just has that extra "Piloting your living room" feel about it - the luxury and general feel of the car (not a cheap piece of plastic ANYWHERE) will be very difficult to move away from when it's time to change.

So unless the ownership experience goes up the swannee I expect to be an FFRR owner for many years, and iterations, to come!!
