Mate of mine managed to drop his Nikon D80 on the lounge floor and it has broken the Nikon AF-S DX 18-135 mm lens he had. No cosmetic damage, but some of the aperture filaments have apparently become detached and tumble round inside like a kaleidoscope!

He's since replaced it with a new (better) lens and doesn't know what to do with the old one. Doesn't want to repair and sell it and doesn't need it as the new lens is better. Is there anywhere that buys/repairs damaged lenses?

It's only a £350 lens new, so it may not be worth repairing. A call to www.GraysOfWestminster.co.uk will confirm.

If it's anything like the Sigma repair centre I used last year (sigh) then the damage gets rated into cost brackets and you just pay that.

I'm sure Nikon have a process for this stuff - call them up.

As for cost, my repair was around £75.

I have a quotation from Nikon for a dropped Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 that runs to £560, and that was minor damage (CPU contacts damaged, zoom ring stiff). I expect your 18-135 will not be economical to repair. Mine was done by Fixation at 2/3rds of the cost, kindly paid for by M&S home contents insurance
