A friend of mine has a TR5 that has been through a nut and bolt restoration and it has come to the stage where we have been discussing polishing wax etc. He feels that only polish is needed but I am convinced he should wax it to better protect it. I was thinking a dodo lime prime app followed by colli 476s but he feels just the lime or SRP is good enough. Am I right in saying this is the best course of action or will the polishing be adequate. Its a bit of a garage queen so is only out on high days and holidays. Your advice is appreciated...

Polish only tidies up the paintwork of the unsightly scratches and swirls, waxes/sealants put a protective layer over the paint to protect it from bird droppings, UV, etc, etc.
Without the LSP (last step/stage product), he may as well whistle dixie.

There's no difference to LP and SRP if using Collinite after it - the fillers/glazing oils of each one will be removed in all likelihood due to the carriers Collinite uses.
So use them for their abrasive aspect, to knock back the lighter scratches, if there are any - otherwise just wash, dry, and apply the wax.

As Phil says, polishing gives shine/paint cleansing/paint correction... you need a wax or sealant over the top to protect the finish.

If it's been repainted, it will need at least a light polish to remove holograms or worse from the paintshops' flatting, then it will need the finish protecting with wax..
