Been on the phone this morning to my bank querying a very confusing letter they'd sent me. It turned out that they'd switched me to a different type of mortgage when I'd paid off some of the capital sum last year. Cue this converstation:

BBE: Yes, it seems as if your payment last year caused a switch in your mortgage. In future could you tell us when you make a payment?

Marty: Eh?

BBE: Well, if you could let us know when you make a payment off the capital sum in future?

Marty: Yeah, I heard that....I didnt just run past the bank and lob the money through the front door....how on earth is it even possible to make a payment against this specific mortgage without you knowing?????

BBE: Erm....thats a good point....we'll have to look into this...

Marty: That sounds like a good idea[click].

Un-Frikkin-believable. Where do they get these people from???

From interest only to a repayment mortgage.

Eh? They must have written to you at that point detailing your new terms and more to the point any change in payment.....
If you are on an i/o mortgage and make a lump sum capital repayment they shouldn't simply change the mortgage basis. Sounds to me that they've fked up somewhere.

The payment was made, confirmed in writing, then 6 months later they write a letter with some complete gibberish about the repayments, hence the phone call.

They fked up hugely.
