Here's the rather brief story.

Day 1 - Transit van completely fine.
Day 2 - Transit van very, very loud. Thought to be a blowing exhaust.
Day 3 - Taken to a garage where it was found the catalytic convertor was missing.

So basically, my dads Transit had it's catalytic convertor stolen in the middle of the night. I read in the papers that they're stealing them for the copper inside them. Likely? Consider this a warning - they must be pretty easy to strip off of a Transit! Not sure what measures could be taken to stop this happening again, any wild PH suggestions?

Yup, some scum round here nicked the catalytic converter off the new community mini-bus. How low can you get?

PS. The replacement had the bolts welded - will make any future work a pain of course.

Dunno, suppose it depends on the ride height of said bus.

It's not copper inside but platinum, or so I've heard. Either way there's a lot of it going on.

Pre 93 is it?

You can sometimes pass emissions without a cat anyway, but IIRC they check for visible presence.

A friend had his cat cut off his 728i a week ago. £400 to get it fixed for the sake of a tenner for some low life.

In the paper a couple of weeks ago that 4x4s were getting them sawn off - so the tacking doesn't necessarily work.

Best ever reason for having a very low car. Or a Citroen CX biggrin
