Just bought a mountain bike (nice 2010 GT outback on fleabay) and was going to hit a few trails/routes in the midlands.

Anyone into it with some advise? and where do you go? Linkies? TIA

i have been riding / racing mountain bikes since i was a wee lad

definatly go to cannock chase and hit the trails there. you can find a marked out route starting at the birches valley visitors center near rugeley. it should be marked on any map if not head for rugeley and follow the signs.

they are also building a new trail just off the hednesford road. if you need any more info let me know.

the best shop i know of is mammoth lifestyle at milford near stafford. swinnertons also have shop at birches valley should you need any parts while your out.

if you are more east mids then go to sherwood pines near macclesfieldi have raced there many times and its a great place.

hope you enjoy your new purchase

It is possible to build a number of routes that include quite a lot of off road south of solihull down towards Lapworth, Henley, Alcester and Alvechurch. Have a word with the Guys at Red Kite Cycles in Shirley. They used to keep a set of sheets on local routes.

well done on the climb! as you go up the very first bit and then turn right and start climbing there is a nice single track off to the left it brings you out near the top.

lol - just chatting to my neighbour and he did it the other week, said it was the hardest thing he had ever done!! Suggeted we give it a go, though i might improve my fitness and skills 1st!!

Noticed even on a relatively easy hill i could do with lockout forks, just energy sapping otherwise... At least mods are cheaper than my car!
