If there's a very obvious answer to this then i'm missing it!

Planning a week tour of Scotland and hoping to take the e30 m3....the only thing is the lighter socket doesn't work.

How can I keep my nav alive for the week.....any ideas?

Scotland is a big place, BUT we do not have that many roads, so a map will do. We are actually quite friendly if you get lost smile (Apart from Glasgow where you will struggle to find a "true" Glaswegian)

(Last bit may be bks of course)

Charge it each night using a mains charger. My oldish Tomtom only lasts about 2hrs on a full charge though. Some of the newer ones charge via the usb socket, so take your laptop with you and either charge it off that overnight, or power the sat nav off the laptop in the car.

Or fix your cig lighter - could just be the fuse! smile

Assuming you have the socket for the torch in the glovebox you could try and use that as a 12v feed. You don't say when you're going, but if you've got a few days asapters are usually available on eBay.

Thanks guys! I have no problem using a map the only problem is for some of the more obscure hotels. It's a c2007 garmin which I have never update therefore have no clue where the data lead is but if I fail to find one i'm sure I can get one on ebay.....good shout!

Cheers

External battery? Probably available from Maplins, don't know whether it would have a suitable connection as standard.

Garmin do power cables for motorbike and car mounts they are about 20.00 each. you can then put this cable from the GPS mount to the battery via fuse switch. This will enable you to use/charge your GPS and then when switching off the bike/car it will then ask you if you want it to still run on the internal battery power without draining your bike battery.

The installation of this is about 20 odd minutes, had mine done by the bike shop. For a car not sure how long to install but my Mini Garage quoted me an hour to this type of install. The bike Garmin came with a car mount as well so the best of both worlds.

One of these would help you:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=22515...

It's a power pack and invertor, and has a cigarette socket as one of its outputs. A decent charge before you go and in my experience (use one on site) it'll last you for ages. Just plug your sat nav in when the battery is getting low and charge as you go. It's also an inverter so you can run your laptop etc from your car battery.

Stating the obvious really, why not just mend the socket?

Or save on the danger in a car crash - instead ask friends to throw bricks at your head.
