I have a friend (no, really smileredface - I've already asked my job related questions on here laugh ) who is looking to work from home for a year or two. He needs to earn approx 15k to cover basic costs, rent etc - no frills.

I've suggested the usual eBay, questionnaires, data input ideas but they are tricky to come by and a not really consistent enough. He basically needs a 9-5, just from his house - the advantage to this is that he would happily work odd hours or nights.

EBay isn't really any good as he will be living on an island/remote part of Scotland so postage etc would be a factor.

We have some basic, 50 quid per week ideas to make up a bit of the income, but he still needs a basic minimum wage per hour type job.

Has a laptop and reasonable internet connection, phone etc

Any ideas, he has no problem doing some basic training if necessary but doesn’t have a degree/any particularly useful experience.

Thanks in advance!

Thats not too far from what I earn, I do 40 hour weeks working from home but it is night based and generally not a nice job.

Can I ask what you do? (I did look at your profile but selling ice to eskimos dosn't sound too bad?)

Nights aren't a problem for him I don't think, he's bought a run-down house on one of the islands off the coast of Scotland and is renovating over the next 12 - 18 months, so is hoping to work from home and renovate 50/50 with the intention of continuing to work from the house if things go well.

I work as a monitor on a adult text service.

All you need is an imagination and a computer.

You've got to give us some information on this! What does your job involve then?

Sounds like he spends 40 hours a week texting sex talk to sad, lonely bds. All for the princely sum of 15k a year.

Even worse, he might have to work on a gay text line. (Assuming he's straight.)

Well I did write a reply but PH crashed.

Ok.. I'm a straight male with a strong stomach and the ability to totally switch off. It takes very little concentration to do the job, if they say "Oh yeah xyz me" the reply is typically "mmm yeah i love xyzing you" or similar. If you do start concentrating on it, its soul destroying. A bit like the lemon party picture, but in words.

Downsides, besides the above include having to deal with people who like talking about kids and animals, people who cannot construct a word, never mind a sentence and just sad, fat, ugly desperate idiots. It's hardly suprising these people are single or that their partners dont put out is the lack of social interaction you get working in an office, factory or anywhere else with people.

I've been doing the job since autumn 2008 (way too long) as I had no transport, and was looking for a job I could either walk or cycle to, as i have a public transport allergy.

Upside is I can drink/smoke whatever I like, no boss 'in the office' so to speak and I can use all my petrol for hooning. I've recently started looking elsewhere for work, so fingers crossed I will be back doing something I enjoy sometime soon. smile

Hope this makes sense, Not been to sleep since finishing work.

Edit for smarts, further smarts might not have been applied.

do you just 'supervise' the texts, or reply ?

I have a vision of someone with a drop down list of standard replies...

interesting job, for the first day anyway no doubt.

Oh sorry, missed this point out.

The service has 2 types of 'people'

Users, who exist.. Users can message each other, or message monitors. Monitor messages always say at the start of the conversation they are monitor messages.

Monitors (us) We can message them, say if their technique is wrong, and getting no where, we can give them a boost winkhurl

We also vet the profiles, profile pictures vomit and deal with billing issues.

Plus other stuffs, which I forget.

So you're more a line manager than a text operator, then? Still not sure I could hack the job. I was bored and decided to browse... one service pays operators 4p/text.

We're paid an hourly rat, with generous bonus's for hitting revenue and traffic targets. The most i've sent in an hour is 168, which at 4p a text would just exceed my hourly rate. Obviously traffic levels aren't always that high so working in that way would result in a pay cut, even for me, so far this month I've averaged 58 texts per hour.

I'm sure you can do the maths. wink

As for hacking it, I just switch off, its not a job for 'anyone' though.

Been reading with interest - while maybe not his first choice, the adult text stuff is certainly of interest idea

He too has found the site offering 4p per text but there are some bad reviews about them on the net. (Not paying up etc)

I don't want to steal any jobs or anything, but would you be prepared to share who you "work" for Riddler? (By pm is fine if easier).

Cheers, Jim

10:30pm - 7am, as my posting pattern on here will prove. I do Sunday night - Thursday night.

Never sent the wrong message to my mum, but there has been times where i have a message ready to paste, a 'Hello how are you..' kind of thing. And then copied something else and ended up sending some random perv a link or file name. Fortunately nothing incriminating as of yet.

Interesting really, I wondered whether you could do that and another part time job and earn a half decent wage for yourself?
