Do you ever get really excited about driving one of your cars?

Recently I have become a little protective over the TVR and during the week it remains under a car cover, waiting for sunny weekends. The lack of weekday use isn't helped by a local council that has a strict residents permit policy and if you live on your own (as I do) you can only have a permit for one car, so the TVR gets the permit and the Merc has to be driven to work to avoid getting a ticket (the 944 is currently elsewhere).

Anyway, I managed to get a visitors spot for the Merc today (thanks to a local mate) and was able to unwrap the Tiv. The sun was out, the roof came off, the car was gleaming and I actually got wobbly legs from the excitement of using it, my stomach actually felt excited and all I was doing was commuting.

I bloody love my car! Owning and driving it is such a joy...a treat almost. I like driving it, I like the way people smile at you when they see/ hear it, I like the fact that it is mine.

When you own a car you love, nothing beats the feeling. I even prefer it to the many 'press' cars we have here at PH for test, and that just makes me biggrin

Anyone else have similar feelings?

I use to get like that when I opened the garage and saw the 340R. Every single time was a Ferris Bueller moment.

I also really enjoy my own car. Its awesome climbing into her for the first time in 6 or so weeks just after getting back from offshore.
The smell, the sound, the feel of the whole thing is just amazing. I can't wait to get back in her after this trip (only 3 weeks to go). First weekend home I am taking her over to Ft William, a nice long drive.

Its even better when you own something a bit special that others can appreciate too. thumbup

Yup, I get a daft tingle with the prospect of taking the mustang out. My brother in law says he does the same when taking his Esprit for a spin.

Daft isn't it smile

It was almost two weeks since I last drove it, and that made it all the more special.

yes Absolutely with you on this.

To be honest, I still felt the same when it was my daily driver. Which is probably why I've still got it after 12+ years.

I do enjoy mine and I'm quite protective of it but as it gets driven everyday I don't quite get the excitement that you feel...well that and it's got half the cylinders, a hard roof and FWD. It's a great car but I had to compromise for a fun everyday car so it's lost some of that special feeling that it had when I first got it.

Give me a wide open road with some kinks in it, and I'll have a blast - give me driving to a fro from college and I'll be bored.

To be sorted come November though biggrin

Not quite in the same boat as you as I don't really get the same sense of occasion as driving a Chim but when I find myself on a nice bit of twisty road in the dry/wet with a nice cold ambient temperature and everything just comes together, that's a nice feeling.

Anyone else expecting to open this and find the pic of the guy "Really enjoying his Range Rover while dressed in ladies undergarments" ?

I drive my car every day and it pootles along quite nicely get's manky and uses not a lot of fuel. When it gets it's weekly wash on a Friday night/Sat morning and i wake up and see it's decent outside knowing i've got to drive somewhere, or even better have nowhere to go but plenty of time, it becomes something completely different.

The excuses are the best bit. "I've got to errr.......go get some rawl plugs, yes that's it! Back in an hour or 3"

As soon as i pull out the drive with the top down and give it a good squirt off down the street i'm like a Cheshire cat.

This weekend shall be no different!

I haven't been out in the Caterham for ages and still haven't got the Mustang road-legal, so currently they are pretty garage ornaments. getmecoat Need to sort both those things out but seem to be struggling for cash at the moment.

I find it easy to really enjoy a car I've owned for a while because I know how it behaves, I have an understanding of the limits of the car and of the best way to extract the most fpm (fun-per-mile) from it. A new/hired/borrowed car needs work to get to that level of enjoyment.

What makes is even more of an event is taking the car cover off smile

My Lotuses used to be parked in the garage, perfectly clean under a custom made indoor car cover. There is no greater feeling than unwrapping a freshly clean car to take it out for a spank.

I'm getting really excited at the prospect of driving my Z4M and Z1 again, not been able to since mid may due to a broken leg. Here's hoping I get the all clear from the doc next week.

That said, if it's sunny I always get excited about driving the Z1.

Yep. Both the M3 and the 355.

Oddly, I find that when they're both filthy and just dumped as I often do, I'm ever so slightly non-plussed. When they're both washed, waxed and under their respective covers, I find I get really excited about popping the cover off to reveal gleaming paintwork.

More so with the 355 obviously, but still, its like a mini-Xmas each time. Or undressing a sexy girl.

Half the fun is the unwrapping..

I don't think you even need a weekend toy to get that feeling- even though I commute in mine every day there's still something special about taking it out over the weekend, pointing it down a twisty road and taking it above 2000rpm… At that moment it miraculously transforms from a tool into a toy. And I love it. cloud9
