It's looking like I'm going to be holidaying on my own this year, which is something I've never done before.

I'm 33 so I suppose not really in either the typical 'travelling' or Solos holiday camp.

I quite fancy America, Cuba or maybe Thailand (depending if the troubles sort themselves out). I certainly don't want to be anywhere couple orientated, nor do I want to be on some kind of 18-30s trip - just somewhere I might meet some likeminded people, have a bit of fun and see some new stuff.

I'm not very well travelled at all, and dont mind admitting I'm finding it a little daunting.

Any suggestions of places to go, or maybe companies to go through?

My brother used www.intrepidtravel.com to do China this year and Loas,Vietnam,Cambodia and Thailand a few years ago by himself, both times he was the youngest (25) and the oldest was a guy in his 60's.

Seeing as this is PH why don't you combine a holiday with a trip to a GP? Hungary and Brazil look the best options for a combined holiday/GP of the forthcoming events.

Thailand gets my vote.

There are always plenty of nice people around, and there is always something for you to do.

In thailand i'm sure you'll be made to feel most welcome (e.g I think I had more converstation in bars with bar maids than I did my friends when there)

Not sure if a GP is as enjoyable on your own, although you could probably easily meet some like minded people.

If it was me I'd be in the car, over to France, circle a few places on the map and go exploring, but thats just me.

Fly to Thailand (transiting through BKK is fine), fly south to the islands - plenty to do, paradise islands.

I'd go tomorrow if I could afford it, the trouble is in Bangkok city centre and up north.

How about a tall ship holiday?

A challenging adventure, visit different countries en-route, something different and with a crew of like minded solo travellers.

It's not loafing around a beach but you'll have great fun.

On one of these for example:
